Fire Stick!

If you have followed me a long time, and you saw Fire Stick as title, you just might think I am at it again with FIRE!  I love matches and fires. After you do a quick story, please Click HERE to see me play with fire.. I was shocked! I say Shocked at how many posts I had.

YES, I did need all these remotes because of the age of our TV, which is 10 years old.

We use Amazon Fire Stick to watch Prime Movies and ours at past 3 years old, started to act up. I checked the price, the one I wanted was $49.99 on sale for 39.99 PLUS I got it to my door for 21.00 due to credits on the account.
Instructions were on one card, simple installation HAH! the old one was plug and play. This one I had to pair the remote after  I found the English instructions. Then I had to find the name of the TV which starts with a P and I had to page through hundreds of brands all the to end.

Part way down in the C's I thought go backwards and find it from bottom up. HAH! I went back up and had to start over.  Any Whoo…. the new better FireStick has Alexa on it.  I could not say Alexa set up the firestick until I found how to get her to speak English. I had no idea how many languages there are.

When I said Alexa, play prime movies, and she talked back, Bob said you did not say this one IS LISTENING, now SHE is listening all the time... OMW!!!! it is not a she, it is not listening unless I ask it to....
Do you use Prime and a Fire Stick or do you have a Smart TV?  Our Old Girl is not Smart without help.

I have smart tvs...with all those icons on it to hook up all that great stuff on. Do I use it...haha. I have cable with Direct through ATT. That is going to go away though. I have a show I totally love and have been waiting for the fall season to start cause after 15 yrs this will be the last y season. I go to watch it only to find out that for some reason Direct and owners of the CW station are having issues coming to terms on things so Direct is not showing my SHOW! Now I am thinking this is a Direct issue cause I know there has been several channels folks have had issues with. Luck, I can watch it on CW online the next day. So...that tells me that I can do without DIRECT! They get you some way or the other.

Nope. Plain old 'press go and play' telly here. Not that it's on that much. I tend to wait till a day when I have several hours free and then do a 'binge-watch' on my laptop with catch up hubs or streaming through the tubular or popcorn. For all my techy nature, I have a great dislike for so-called 'smart stuff'. YAM xx

We have a roku. I don't want anything listening to me in my house..I've heard such rumors about that! But Dish has come out with a new remote that you can tell it what you want to watch. I'm so tempted. Technology is getting updated so fast I think it is leaving me behind.

Hello,

When you said fire stick, I was thinking about one of those sticks to back up your photos. My mistake. We have the smart tv now. We tried the Amazon Prime free trial offer. But, did not keep it, we may get it back later. Right now our cable company gave us Netflix free for 2 years. When the 2 years are up we will go back to Amazon Prime. We can talk to our cable remote, it is neat.

Oh my gosh - we don't have one television (and we have a lot) smart or not smart that doesn't take at least two remotes for every tv and the smart ones take more! Is that really smart? Sandie

Yes! I use prime...I have a smart TV upstairs and actually the TV I have downstairs is smart, too, but I use a firestick on it because it just works so much better for youtube, etc. I have no idea why cause the TV upstairs works good for everything. But I will tell you something, and whoever reads this....for a good while after we got it, the speach and picture were out of sync, I tried different things it said to try and finally decided to just get another firestick...guess what? Before the firestick came, the speech thing had straightened itself out...now I have a firestick that has never been used.

I have a smart TV but I still need between 2-5 remotes to control it... :) (one for the TV itself, a separate one to choose cable TV channels, and the others are for the sound system, my BRD player, and my old DVD player... (So it's really me who still need to be smart and remember which remote to use when!)

I'm so untechie that we don't have any of that. I wish I had a way for our 4 year old tv to work with our VHS player. I have a TON of videos that I would love to watch but can't get them to work together. It probably needs some gizmo which we don't have.
DVDs work fine on our tv though.
I really am cautious of ALEXA and those type of things. They truly are listening to everything in ones house. Not that we have anything to hide but it's just too Big Brother for me.
I love how you can figure out all of that stuff though.
Way to go.

We have Prime and we have Alexa.....and we have a smart TV. However, our internet is located at the back of the house and it isn’t reliable in the den. I have no clue how to even watch movies on my laptop or iPad. Which I could do from the sewing room or bedroom. The things I do not know how to do would blow your mind! You are so smart!

We do have Prime since Adam and Gabby bought it for Christmas. We have 3 smart TV's. Also our two Blu ray players are smart! Glad you figured that all out. I hate change!!!

Hooray, I love this post! I knew you had a fire stick, so figured this would be about it. It still mystifies me to this day, despite you explaining it to me awhile back! Does it only show Amazon movies? We could not even set up our new router without tech support coming over. I guess we cannot set up any and everything. We have direst T.V. and love it. Easy peasy and nothing we have to fool with or worry about. It is expensive, but every few months Phil calls them and gets them to lower the bill. Your T.V. may not be smart, but YOU are, and that is even better. We must both have Panasonics.

I don't have a smart tv. I use the fire stick. The one I have is older I think. One of the girls at work let me use hers.

Good grief! After the first 90 seconds I probably would have given up and thrown something at the television. :) (Ya, instruction booklets are my arch enemy.)
DON'T TELL BOB, but our Alexa listens and remarks at random, even when she's not asked. Not all the time, mind you. But just the other night Tom and I were talking about something totally random and 'she' made some remark. We just looked at each other like, 'Did you just hear that?'
Oh well, if someone's spying on our household, they're likely to die from boredom.

To answer your question? We've a smart TV, that's smarter than me. I leave that stuff to Tom.

We have two dumb T.V.s and two Fire Sticks. Got a great deal on the second one and really like the new features. Set up the old one on the RG's t.v. thinking he would like to watch the prime movies.
He won't touch it. He had a bad experience with multiple remotes at a motel and went to sleep early grumpily--haha.
I just don't think to use the microphone feature but would probably like it if I did.
It's my understanding that it is actually listening all the times (not by a real person) and recordings are coded (not what you actually say) and kept for a certain length of time.
Like most, we have nothing to hide but what troubles me is that it could be twisted into something 'fake news'--haha.

Prime Movies and You Tube are my prime viewing with the fire stick.

Also have additional remotes for the Wii but those are primarily used by out of town grandchildren when visiting.

:) . Oh technology. I just watch things on the computer. Prime, Netflix, etc. I can't be bothered figuring anything else out.
