Nature Friday from our backyard

We are battling Squirrels!
Bob saved these by picking them with the long pole.
They knock down about 7 per day, one day it was 12, that go in the trash. They ruin each one.
We did manage to give away 12 on one day and 9 another day the friends at the Y.

can you find the little devil???

the stems come with them because the pole is 22 feet long and the fruit is 24 feet in the air, causing Bob's arms to be the extra length needed, he has to hook and jerk them lose..
There are many we can't reach.

This post was created on 10/9, sitting in drafts. Gamma is a thing of the past now
Natures Gamma the Tropical Storm gave our jungle a good slow rain all day Sunday,

Each one is the size of the little devil! Surely they do not try to bury them! So why do they need so many; one would fill them up!

we love your jungle... and we have the problem with the figs what are high above... seems a ladder has to do the trick ;O)

Bob got quite a workout gathering those avocados even with a long pole. Did he have a snipper at the end to cut the stems? We have pears to gather. They are still unripe, but there will come a time when we shall have to gather and store them. The branches are far too long, the same with the fig tree and the climbing roses. We need a ladder and a long handled snipper to gather the fruit and then do some pruning. Soon it'll be leaf gather time too as the leaves fall.

I see them up in that tree. Too bad they don't eat a whole one before moving on to another.
That doesn't sound like an easy way to pick them. My arms would get very tired doing that.

You gotta admire them for their cleverness and determination! It's a wonder Bob doesn't have bad shoulders!

A jungle it is!! But, oh so pretty! Yesterday I made us nachos for lunch. I coulda used a couple of your fruits for guacamole!

How I wish we lived closer so I could come trick-or-treat for avocados! I wonder if the squirrels aren't hoarding for the winter.

Your back yard's pretty ... like the Florida I remember from the 1950's.

Dang tree rats...if they were not so obnoxious and greedy we could co-exist but boy oh boy do they push my buttons
I hope your injuries are healing

Wow those are some big avocados and who knew squirrels liked them. I love avocado.

Boy, buying avocados that big in the store would probably cost $5.00 a piece.
Glad you were able to save some and that your "jungle" is getting watered gently.
Stay safe and keep on healing.

As a kid, I would have loved that jungle. Yeah for saving some avocados...I bet the friends at the Y appreciate it.

Drat those squirrels ruining all the avocadoes because we really enjoy them in our salads and they can get pricey at the supermarkets .
