Chain Reaction 6

You may remember the Cracked Pot in our front yard. When I went to Home Depot to buy the house plant, they had gorgeous Purslane and portulaca every where. I bought none and got home and thought, Idiot, they would be good in the cracked pot. The next day during Walmart Seniors Only Early shopping, I checked there garden shop and they had them too.  I had the flowered pot that was also empty.

I planted tiny pieces in the crack of the pot, and will show you those as soon as they root and look good.

While planting the plants that I call Moss Rose, I saw three empty pots in the back yard by the pool.

I have a label full of these HERE and have grown these for years. Sun or Shade and grow all by themselves.

Aha! I will pull up the ferns that are growing 4 feet tall and plant them in the pots.. They are all over our back yard and easy to yank up.

I can tell you it took me a couple of hours and my back and hands and shoulders sent me to bed with my pal Asperin.

These ferns are called Macho Fern Nephrolepis biserrata. they are a big and bold fern and are also referred to as Giant Sword Fern. they grow about 3 feet tall and are native to Florida and spread like weeds. Ours are 4 feet tall in some places.
Drought resistant and only need a few sprinkles here and there to survive.

The chain reaction from buying 4 valances for the Living Room Window ended with 5 days of hard labor when I planted these ferns.   There are two more closets and one cabinet to go. Maybe during the Next Pandemic.

The pots look good with these plants in them. The ferns look a bit like Boston Ferns. I bet you will be sore tomorrow!

All the pots look great. I like the moss rose. I was going to wander through the garden center at walmart the last time I was there but then changed my mind since I would only kill whatever I bought

You go girl!! But, no more pandemics. The only "pan" I would like to see is one washed & in the drain by the sink...drying. As for those demics? Keep 'em in the White House!!!

Love the ferns. And the pretty yellow blooms.

You are keeping busy. Cleaning & organizing the closets, shopping, changing the curtains and now potting the plants. I love the new pots, and the flowers and ferns! Take care, enjoy your day!

Not for the first time, I had to Google purslane and portulaca. Pretty, but how'd you learn all this? It's obvioius your greens love their home turf!
(I've no idea why, but it creeps me out to put my fingers in soil.)

What pretty flowers! We don’t have many ferns growing, especially 4 ft tall!

This is when age is a horror, when just potting a few ferns puts you out of action. I know my ivy needs cutting but I'm trying to get up the enthusiasm needed as I know I'll hurt after.

You are one woman machine!!
Great work and even worth the pain I think...
I sure hope there isn't another pandemic happening to spur you on.
Great work and great post.

Your moss rose brings back memories. When Summer was a little girl, Mother's next door neighbor - who was named Mrs. Rose - gave her a pot of pulled up moss rose. Summer planted that here at home and we had it for years and years! That's still one of her sweet memories of childhood.

Sandra you found your green thumb!! I love the colors too.
I've been purging closets today. Just returned from N. Raleigh Mission. They take donations on Wednesday only

We eat purslane as a salad - the leaves look the same but yours have much better flowers. That's some serious life-laundry you have been engaged in there. I like to have the occasional day when one thing simply points to another and the day is filled with useful stuff I would never have thought to put on a 'to do' list for the day. All sort of strange and interesting jobs of maintenance and improvement get done. Sounds like you have had a week of it.

I have no doubt that all those plants will do very well. If it takes another pandemic to get to those closets, then I hope they never get done. We don’t need another pandemic .

Beautiful flowers and ferns - you can't go wrong!!! Mom needs to get some more RED flowers to attract a hummer or two to our feeder.

Crackpots across the street and cracked pots in the yard, lol. I love Moss Rose so very much, too. The petals are like gossamer. Gem-like colors. Very smart move with those monster ferns!

I love ferns too, yours look lovely! I like the idea of your cracked pot. I need good, hardy plants to survive my green/not-so-green thumb!

You have been working hard and just inspired me to get up and get going with my day. I hope you have a lovely day and don't work too hard.

I loved your last sentence. "Maybe during the next pandemic" I am with you on that, which in my case, I'm too old to likely live that long, so will be never. Love your ferns. I buy several every year, for 3 of my pots, annuals, so always have to replace each year. Wish I had wild ferns in the yard. They are so beautiful, and I bet you would agree, they are worth the hard work. Hugs from Wisconsin

You have been so active. I need to be active! The pots look awesome. We finally got some plants for the vegetable garden and a few flowers for the yard. Mark planted all of them yesterday.
