The Price We pay

The price we pay is not always quickly evident! Bob doesn't eat apples unless cooked and I wanted apples just for me. I always buy Gala, and it is a bag for 3.74 most of the time.

I decided to try  1 each Ambrosia Gold and Honey Krisp Ambrosia. Price I paid for TWO apples put me in a state of shock when I scanned them to check out.

Crisp was 1.36 and Gold was 1.59 each.

I shopped this week and there were no Galas and the bag of 8 small apples cost $4.44. All others were $6 to $8 a bag.
I am a one stop shopper but may have to dart from store to store sale shopping.
Has anyone notice the sky rocking food prices and the lack of what used to be there?

That's a crazy difference in price. I have noticed a price increase and so many of the things that I used to buy regularly are constantly out of stock.

That is nuts prices. We have heard prices are going up in UK as well but it is being blamed on costs of delivery...??? Who knows.

Sure have. 🙁 Some fellow saw me staring at the ground chuck and remarked, "Scary, isn't it?
Trying to envision life as a vegetarian; but who knows what one will do if I get hungry enough.

I have heard in the news that they are deliberately making a food shortage. They have asked the farmers to burn the rest of their crops. Not a 100% sure this is fact, but it is what I have heard. We have shortages and high prices here too.

Spent $$$ on apples and they weren't that good. If anyone asks,"How do you like them apples?", I'd have to say, "Not very much."

Yes I have noticed....I bought one navel orange the other day. I think it was a dollar. By the time I peeled it it shrunk from the size of a soft ball to the size of a tennis ball. It was good but that was not a dollars worth of orange...maybe 25 cents. Our favorite coffee beans, Peets brand, has gone up to 11.99 a lb. We only buy it when it is on sale $6.99 THEN WE BUY 2. Coffee is one of our simple pleasures (soon to become a luxury) so we splurge.'

Yes I have noticed the rising prices. We enjoy avocadoes but at $2.00 each I think we will be giving them a miss for a while. Some go bad so quickly and it's always hit and miss.

Prices have certainly gone up here in Canada.

Since COVID, there have been no cherry tomatoes in the "Cherubs" and suchlike brands. Instead, they put grape tomatoes. There are a lot of other items missing, too. For example, we have just a few pears, all the Bartlett. No Bosc, no red pears. Cauliflower has been lacking, and there are often empty bins of other produce, especially summer squash like yellow squash. A LOT of brands I liked are gone, too. Just so much less CHOICE, and so much more COST! And yet new products that are very expensive and are foreign to me are showing up on the shelves. Maybe they have to stock SOMETHING and so these items that didn't have a chance before are getting some shelf space???

Yes to both of your questions.
There are whole empty shelves again and everything is going up at least .40 from my last shopping time. Can hardly afford to eat..maybe its a self imposed diet coming my way.
Apples are cheaper here because we are right into apple season. I love Honey Crisp and Gala too. sweet, tart and crispy...yum.

I am basically still doing Instacart from Sprouts although I was recently at our grocery store but didn't shop for much. I need to start shopping for real!! Obviously we are spending more than we should.

Food prices are crazy. I'm glad I don't eat red meat, I can only imagine the price of a steak these days. But you are right. I noticed the prices of apples at WM when I used to order online and pick up. It's easier to see what each thing costs when you do that. And since they charge per apple, unless you buy a bag, it's really easy to see how expensive an apple is these days.
