Peppermint Tea, the wonders of it all

The cup you have seen before, the saucer belonged to my mother's mother. I use the saucer as a lid while the tea bag steeps.

My IBS is most of the time under control, but I continue to look for new ways to keep it at bay. I typed in Eating with IBS, to see what would come up and this is the LINK

I fell down the Alice Hole and spent over and hour reading all the links and found a lot of new things that help.
I can eat Molasses, Oranges, tomatoes, apples (peeled, raw or cooked) but only in small amounts and never eaten on an empty stomach.
I try to Eat more of soluble foods on an empty stomach and the rest of the meals for my day eat 70% percent soluble 30% un-soluble.
Info on that in link above.

My BEST New Friend is PEPPERMINT TEA!
Peppermint tea is a tummy soother.

If I drink it on my empty stomach when I first wake up it works wonders.
Since reading her website I found FAT and Dairy and that includes Lactaid, are the worst symptom triggers of all.
It is not the lactose for me, it is the milk.
I now drink almond milk and despise it.

There is a brand new milk out that you will LOVE!!! It is even better than full fat dairy milk. It is a combination of oat milk and coconut milk. If you don't love it, you get a full refund. Phil doesn't like milk, but he loves this. I even love it in my coffee. Anyway, it is a SILK brand, and is called NEXTMILK. So far, the only store here that has it is Kroger. I always keep peppermint tea on hand!

Has your IBS got worse or better with age? Mine went through a few bad years and seems to have improved somewhat in the ladt 4 or 5 - which may be down to changed eating but i made no spevigic changes just adapted to what's available locally. It would be interesting to see if different cultures hzve different prevalsnce of IBS.

I've had peppermint tea and it's not bad. It's not my favorite but if I had IBS, I would certainly drink it regularly. Glad you are finding new things that you can eat

As I have written previously, peppermint is a stimulant, whereas chamomile is the settler. That said, peppermint is great for calming queaziness, but as you appear to have discovered, is harsh on an empty stomach. The taste is good though! You can actually combine cham with pepp to get the best of both. I know from both personal experience and professional standing that IBS is such an individual things, that, while it is fine to find common ground with others, it very often boils down to trial and error to find what works best for oenself. As Tigger's F says, it can also have periods of being better or worse, too. I know that stress and or anxiety is a big factor. Anyhoo, you are doing wonderfully well in your own researches - and as ever, know just how to enytertain us with it all!!! YAM xx

I have similar problems and I do love the peppermint tea. I stopped regular milk years ago, I use Almond milk in my cereal. I was never a milk drinker.
Take care, enjoy your day!

You are finding some great choices! In regards to AT HOME...it's a home & garden warehouse. From bedding, baskets, to outdoor furniture etc.

My hot tea of choice is several flavors of Bigelow.
Earl Gray and Mint Medley Decaf. I also like Constant Comments, that is the flavor not sure if it is by Bigelow though

You deserve a Gold Medal for being your own best friend/detective. I wish I could get Tom to consider drinking Peppermint Tea. Basically, all he'll drink are coffee and Coca-Cola. Forget consulting yet another doctor!

Have you heard of putting Peppermint essential oil in the toilet bowl? I've a friend who swears by it.

Like everyone else, I'm glad you do the research and find ways to improve your issues.
Peppermint tea seems to give me a headache but if I had your problem I might give it a go for my body's sake.
As Yamini said..each person has to find what works for them..You Go Girl!!!

I always enjoy seeing what works and doesn't work for you, and for everyone in the comments. I don't have IBS, but I have developed a sensitive stomach over the past few years and always leave here with more ideas on what to avoid...and what to try!

Hi Sandra, It's good to know that you are finding new things to try and they are working for you, I'll pass on this info to a friend of mine who suffers with IBS.

I'm glad you found some other things that you can eat and that the tea is helpful. The link didn't work for me. Sorry you don't like the almond milk. I use it in oatmeal and cereal.

Funny I always thought peppermint would bother my stomach - it soothes it?

My sister was a big peppermint tea drinker and swore by it. Glad you've found what works for you.
