I went to Goodwill Thrift store, looking for a planter, or maybe a silk plant in a planter for the front porch. Something to fill a space.
They had NOTHING.
As I headed for the door, I spied with my little eye, several stainless steel, 1-quart pots with lids.
4 pots with lids, 8.99 each.
Then I spied with my little eye a pot that said 3.99 on it. No Lid.
Sitting on another shelf was a box of lids, with 99cents each lid.
Woo HOO! I found the perfect lid for the perfect pot, and it fit.
Price for both $4.98,
Pitcher $1.59 to scoop water from rain barrel for my plants
The white dish pan they are sitting in is my Dollar Tree Purchase for $1.25.
I now wash dishes in the dishpan and water the bush outside the window with water that used to go down the drain.
Did you know soapy water sprayed on your plants will get rid of unwanted bugs?
I forgot how heavy water is. My first attempt was a minor disaster, walking from sink to sliding door, it sloshed over the sides and stepping out through the door it sloshed a LOT all over the door mat and the deck.
Mop kitchen floor, drag soaked matt into the sun.
I should have known Tossing heavy water is above my skill set.
The fix.
Pour dish water into a container and make 3 trips outside which means added exercise.
I can take the container to front yard for ferns, or porch ferns, all over the back yard hitting different plants each time. I use the pitcher to pour black tea/coffee on plants too.
The container is old, I could see it in the back corner, top shelf but could not reach it due to my shrinking aged body.
I used the thingy that turns over chicken on a grill,
the long one to keep from singing eyebrows when grilling.
It is my Senior Grabber. Sometimes it requires the Senior Step Stool also.
Use of Stool/grabber/thingy is great exercise for Seniors.
So is carrying the picther full of water/tea/coffee around front/back yard.
Who needs a step counter, Just water the plants a pitcher at a time

Andy had to do something similar when he was trying to bring water down to the fruit trees in the orchard. 😊
You did well. I remember having to do that when we were in drought. Also catching water in a bucket while having a shower.
You remind me of my Aunty Jean (Dad's aunty actually). She was always game and cheerful. Gardened to the end of her 94 years. Drove her car. Laughed a lot. Shrunk over the years. She had a mirror on the wall beside the door to check her hair before answering the door, or before going out. As she shrunk instead of getting the mirror lowered she just put a low step in front of it and stood on that. Until her late 80s Jean still went on a girl guides 'camp' once a year with women friends who had been guides together in their youth. Remarkable that most of them lived that long.

It is a good idea to use the dishwater and collecting the rain water for your plants. Your found some great items at the thrift store. I like those stainless pots with lids. The pitcher is easy to use for watering your plants.

Yup, Anni beat me to it - tongs. In OZ I always washed in a bowl and used it this way... I also arranged my laundry so that I could move the drain pipe from the washer; that way I could fill a rain barrel with the drain off. We were always advised to use our grey water down under as there are some ground-improving benefits to the soap suds too (as long as one used non-bio detergents). And of course they are diluted because the rinse water mixed with it... YAM xx

My grandmother used to do the same thing with her dish water! I've never tried putting black coffee on my plant ... yet. B/c I'm determined not to let it die from neglect -- like all its predecessors -- I'll start with just a little (Dab'll do ya, cha-cha-cha.)
Soooo glad you didn't slip on the spilled water and fall. Even a little water and our kitchen floor becomes a skating rink.
That sounds like a lot of work - but how nice you put a positive spin on things. I am sorry about the drought, glad you didn't slip!

Thrifting is my favorite things to do, and I am on my way to Goodwill now. The big one that is out of town. We have nothing like what is in Linda's Texas Goodwills. I have never seen things in any Goodwill like she has there. You did good, and are really good at figuring out how to manage tricky chores. I cannot use a stool, I am off balance even on solid ground!
You did good at the thrift store. That dish pan looks great. It's been a long time since I've washed dishes that way but I used to. Adam and Gabby have one of those long farm sinks and if it were me I would be using one of those to wash dishes. I'm so afraid of breaking something when I'm there. Love your grabber. I actually have one of those they were selling on TV years ago. I use it often since I'm short.
Grabbers are my friend. Use it all the time for my vertically challenged body.
I hate getting up on stools..seem to be getting wobblier all the time.
So far we aren't into mandated restrictions for water usage yet, but I am always careful. We used a whole lot more water for showers, laundry this last week when we had 4 additional people in the house. Really didn't mind but now we will get back to conserving more. Hand washing dishes for the last year since our washer has been fickle.
I'm with you on the sloshing of water when I carry it..what a mess but you got the kitchen floor extra clean I guess.

But it is all entertaining stuff...and I woukd not call that useless!
