Butterflies are free, but they only drop by our yard if we have flowers.
The above photos was taken about 5 years ago, before the drought. We had a dozen different butterflies and then there were none.
With dishwater and lots or rain our Kings Mantle has tripled in size and is covered in blooms.
We have seen 4 butterflies since these beauties started blooming. we have two of these bushes and we are hoping for more butterflies. Enough for me to catch a photo.
Look at this photo and tell me if you think the big branch in the center is the same bush. I showed these to bob and he said it is not. Answer tomorrow |

I love the brilliant blue color. and the butterfly pic is so clear and sharp. But then I would expect no less from The Mad One. No, I don't think the branch in the middle is the same plant.
the mama said it could be da same... but she is the girl who greets people on the street she never saw before, because she thinks it's a neighbor LOL...
Those bright blue flowers are lovely and there's so many. I think the large, taller branch is from another King's Mantle bush that has grown big leaves.

Bring on the flutterbyes!!! as for the branch... easy to think it different, but the leaves essentially look the same, so maybe a kind of feral growth of the same bush? YAM xx
That kings mantle is looking so pretty. A little water sure does make a difference. I never get butterflies in my yard but then I have nothing in my yard that attracts them.
I'm going to guess that the big branch in the middle is something different.
Good morning,
Your Kings Mantle is beautiful, love the pretty blooms.
I think the big leaves are from another plant.
Take care, enjoy your day! Have a happy 4th of July weekend.
The leaves are just a larger version? Love the purple blossoms.
Is that a branch it has grown since you have bene watering it? Yay for dishwater, especially if it restores some butterflies to your yard.
I'd say you have a vine growing up through the pretty flowers. It's so nice to see butterflies! I saw some yesterday on my hike!
Your King's Mantle is gorgeous!
We don't get many butterflies at our place, but the other day I waiting on the girls to do their business when one appeared out of no-where. 'Dressed' in varying shades of brown and a pop of gold it looked for all the world like my daddy's favorite outfit. After I spoke aloud, it disappeared, but my heart was happy.
PS - Same bush? I wouldn't DARE disagree with Bob!
I don't know about the mystery branch but the bush is gorgeous

The flowers are so pretty. If that center branch is from th esame plant, it has taken extra vitamins.
I like Ruth's answer about the vitamins...Wonderful what a little dishwater will do for the garden.
We see an occasional butterfly in our yard but we don't have flowers so I'm not surprised.
The vine is huge but it looks to be in the same family by the look of the leaves.
No Lynne today I go on Sundays for the month of July. Granddaughter and I traded times so she can be with her Honey on the weekends. He's working at a camp all weekdays long for the month of July.

It's beautiful and such a lovely color. I was comparing the leaves from larger to smaller. It maybe the same bush but will wait until tomorrow for the answer.
King's Mantle!! It's beautiful! I don't think we have those in Texas!
I bought a couple of plants that I am watering like crazy so I don't lose them. I hate to waste $$ and if they survive the first year they are planted , it's easier to keep them on out!
Hooray for the visiting butterflies!
The branch does look different to me.
Good for you for carrying that dishwater!
No, I don't think the branch in the middle is the same plant. Thank God for dishwater!
I've never heard or seen Kings Mantle but it has very pretty flowers and I do hope you get butterflies. I've seen a few around here but most of the time I never have my camera in hand to get a picture. - The large vine looks similar but I think it's something different.
