Wordsmith Wed

While chatting via email with my long-time blog friend Cecilia, she mentioned my way with words. I replied in a joking manner, I am a wordsmith, a word remembered from hearing it on America's Got Talent said by Simon Cowell to a Poet.

Research found wordsmith has many definitions.
I am not an expert with words,
I am not someone who uses language well,
I am not a fluent professional writer.
I am not a writer of poems
But I AM a skilled user of words.
I can tell a story in rhymes or tell a tale and make it fun to read by using my wordsmith skill.
I have a gift for words, I can use them to make the ordinary things
interesting or funny or both.
I have yet to find a way to Stem the Flow. Or stop them from spewing before I think. 😉

This post is to my Inner Self!
I was a miserable child, teen, wife, mother, employee.
Give me a compliment and my mind turned/turns it into the negative.
A simple, I like your shirt, and I think, "you did not say I LOOK good, you just like the shirt"
Your hair looks nice, turns to "most of the time it doesn't"

My own worst critic!  Constantly comparing myself to others.

I can't sketch, or play an instrument, or paint, or do crafts. ON AND ON.
Since the day I learned to talk, I have been guilty of badmouthing myself and seeing only the things I am not skilled at.
Compliments given when I sang in a trio at church, were lies people told me to make me feel good because I was the pastor's daughter.
This Site 13 Struggles of People who are hard on themselves, is a list of everything I felt as I grew up and still to this day feel those thoughts.
Today I say
Hello, My Name is Sandra, and I Am a Wordsmith!
To Be Continued and continued and continued

ABSOLUTELY you ARE!!! You have so many gifts! You are such a comfort to me and you bless us all in The Land of Blog with your magical sense of humor!
Yes, you are Sandra and you ARE a WORDSMITH!

Oh my goodness! So you are saying that your entire life, you have been miserable? You really ARE your own worst critic! You cannot see any of the good about yourself. Like, you are a wonderful teacher, and help so many people with your knowledge. Your sense of humor is fantastic, and cheers up so many of us on a bad day. Not to mention reacuing so many dogs who otherwise would have suffered...and on and on and on...Remind yourself that God gave you these gifts, and you are using them all, something that many never do.

You are definitely a wordsmith.
I can relate to not taking compliments well and seeing only the negative. I was never good at taking a compliment. And I know I am way to hard on myself seeing too much negative.

Hello Sandra,

You do have a way with words and you have a gift working with the photos editing too. I am also hard on myself, I've been that way all my life. Take care, enjoy your day!

I love that term; it's so perfect for what you do and who you are.
I'm afraid to click on this link b/c I totally see myself in everyone of the examples you cite. Good grief!

Chin up, girl ... love you!

You are a wonderful teller of tales...and a wonderful friend. I read the list and some apply to how I feel/react. A lot of times, I am very uncomfortable in my own skin.

SANDRA you might not be a professional writer however, your writing is very relatable to every day life. You write with humor and tell it like it is. That is my kinda author.
Hugs Cecilia

I had never heard of the word wordsmith but you are awesome having it.
Sandra I am a lot like you with the negatives - my grandson even told me that last week. I am going back to look at your list.

Wordsmith is a good word, and you certainly have a way with words - and with images as well! - turning everyday 'backyard experiences' into entertaining stories. And words are powerful - used right, they can turn turn our thoughts around as well.

Please don’t interpret this as preaching but I must share my experience. I have always had very low self esteem, till God showed me a verse in Psalm 139:14. It simply says that I or anyone else am fearfully and wonderfully made. I remind myself often of what this verse says and then I say to myself. God doesn’t make junk, so therefore I am worthy.

Sorry you do that to yourself. Your shouldn't. People don't have to make compliments, they do it because they mean it. That was a very interesting article you shared. Sending you (((HUGS))) I think you are an amazing person.

Hello Ms. Wordsmith! It's true, we are really bad about taking a compliment. I am too. I need to practice in the mirror and say, you did good today ten times every night ;)

p.s. I read Ginny's comment, she said it so well.
