Hurricane Ian and the Garage Door

Bad News, Good News

Bad News, Ian the giant kicked in the garage door.

Good News is, the repair man said, you are lucky you have a roof on the house.
If it had sucked the door in on top of your cars, not only would the cars be totaled but your roof would be gone.
He said I have seen it all over our area, roofs gone because of garage doors.

Our new paint job was not destroyed, the new roof if fine, the potted fern on the porch was thrown off its stand and is still perfect.

The ferns I planted and Babied look great.

Above there are 4 missing panels to the facia, but I found all four, out in the yard and collected then and they are safe and waiting for Bob and I to Man/Woman handle the ladder from turning over while he replaces them. Free of Charge Woo Hoo on that.

Above below is inside, both trucks were held hostage so it was hard to get a photo.
The door man came the next day, jacked up the door and said when I say Go
you back out as fast as you can.
OMG! I was terrified that
A. it would fall on him or the truck
B. I would back over him, or even just his toes
C. I had not driven Bob's truck in years and had forgotten how to back up a big truck.
I did it! No harm to vehicles or workers

oh no.... we hope there is a way to fix or to replace it... our dad once made a garage door with his own paws. It was laying on the ground the next day... till today he swears there was an invisible and unknown storm that night....

I am guessing the line up for repairmen of all types is pretty large, so you did well to get that help in fairly timely manner - glad it starting to get sorted. YAM xx

This is the part of your story (nightmare) I was hoping to hear more about! Goosebumps, just thinking how close y'all came to losing both vehicles and the roof. Yep. All things considered, you're blessed.

So there is a lot to be said for a quality garage door then? What challenges you faced! Stonework ain't so great in an earthquake - at least you don't get those.

Ther bad news wasn't good, Sandra, but then the good news was better than it could have been. Glad that you or the cars were not injured or damaged. Doors can be replaced, people not so much.

Wow, that garage door says a lot about the power of Ian...you are blessed, it could have been much worse BUT....the damage was still pretty bad!

Hey that was amazing. They are going to repair or give you the panels free? And you didn't lose your new roof? Awesome - you got the best damage of the worst of the storm, I guess. So glad your cars are okay.

I posted again would love you to come visit if you want.

Sandra I declare all your furry angels were guarding you, Bob and Beau that night. WHEW
I got a chuckle when you commented my crown would be as $$$ as your garage door. LOL Probably close thankfully I had not used all my dental ins allowance and double thank goodness my crown was replaced in less time than your garage door will be.

Hi Sandra :=)

I would have been so nervous reversing quickly out of the garage, well done, and I'm so glad your doors have been repaired. When I think what could have happened as told by the repairman, it's blood curdling. You were so lucky this didn't happen.

Backing out like that I would have had to lie down afterwards! Glad that he gave you the good news bad news. Still a lot to swallow but I suppose he was trying to make you feel better by saying how much worse it could have been. I'm glad for that and so very sorry for those without their rooves and houses.

Oh my goodness you were lucky not to loose your roof and trucks. However, it looks like you have had a big clean up and more to get repaired. Good on the tough ferns. Take care with ladders. Very dangerous for oldies.

That really was scary and it could have been so much worse. I'm glad we have smart people around that can work on things! Take care!

I'm glad you were able to get the cars out. I also believe that in many ways you were lucky because it could have been so much worse than it was. ((HUGS))
