FPL Good Job

I opened the door to a knock, and there stood a man in a bright green vest. He handed me the above doorknob hanger and said, FPL (electric company that has easement on back of our property under the power lines) will be trimming your trees in the next 5 days.
He said maybe late today or sometime tomorrow.
I rushed to the back yard and told Bob the good news that I did not have to call them to cut the trees and rushed back to the computer.
his last words were, we will knock before we enter your back yard.

One hour later I walked in the kitchen still in my night gown to let Beau outside.
Across the pool were these two men trimming trees.
I had no idea they were there. The green guy caught me taking photos and waved, I ran to the bedroom window, and they had left the drive through gate standing open.
I kept Beau inside until they left and hour later.

I thought they were gone, they were not in the back yard, I went out and checked the gate safety and as I walked back, they had appeared in the back yard behind us behind the gate and two were up in the trees. They waved! I followed Beau around while he did his business  and heard the man in the tree yell HEY! I looked and he pointed to the side yard where there was a 4th man peering over that fence.
I looked at him, he said something I could not hear Beau and I walked closer and he said something in Spanish, as I was talking English and he started to shake his head back and forth.
No no hablar! Pointing at Beau and then pointing to the door.
I yelled you want the dog inside?
Seeeeee while nodding up and down and grinning at me.
the most excitement we have had since Hurricane Ian.
I thought he would go around, could not tell him don't step on the rotted fence, and he of course DID step on it causing it to lean almost to the ground.
I will not repeat the words bob said.

Before above below is after.  You can't see much difference but everything that was touching wires is gone

See the tree in the middle above?
Below it is down about 8 feet shorter.
We are thankful they did it and wish they could have taken down more, but they only do what touches wires, and we have to do the rest if we want it done. that means pay for it.
I am so very thankful they cleared what they did.
The last time they trimmed you will find HERE Tree walker in November 2010, they surprised me then when I stepped outside in my night gown and there he was in our tree.
The big Pine with a chain saw, walking from limb to limb, this time it was Jake the unfriendly dog in the yard. I did get great photos
of him doing his tree walking, I wanted to catch the photo if he fell

Getting trees done at no cost to yourselves is definitely a plus, albeit a bit invasive early in the morning! YAM xx

I'm glad they did it, but it would have been better if they told you they were there.

it is done... and we hope there is a long quiet time till they appear again.... we wonder that all tree-stylists ruin fences... is that a special ritual of this guys?

I came home one day last week and saw them trimming the trees on my street. Of course our trees are way shorter than what you have there.

Hello,

I am glad Beau was not out in the yard while they were cutting. They do the same here only cut what can touch the wires. I hope your fence is ok.
Take care, have a great day!

All's well that ends well, I suppose. I find that tree trimmers here should be more correctly called tree butchers. They seem to have little training in judicious trimming and hack off far more than is necessary for safety's sake.

Lol with Bob - I get that totally. I am so glad they removed some trees for free!

The city power company will do that here also. What I can't understand is why they don't put power lines underground...especially in hurricane alley!!?!

Well that was some excitement for the day. Anywhere we have lived with trees it is the landowners responsibility and cost to keep the trees back from the powerlines and we get charged (money, not electrically charged) if our trees encroach on the powerlines.

Oh wow, I'm glad you got the trees cut but glad you still have them. They can prove a hazard though. Broke my heart to have to cut ours down a while ago but safety always comes first :) To get trees removed these days, the costs are astronomical!

Nice that the trees were trimmed from the wires, even if a bit more trim would have been welcomed, Sandra. Hopefully, you won’t have to call in a tree trimmer because as someone noted it can be costly. My brother, who lives in NJ, told me about how costly it was for him. Thanks for your comment on candlepin bowling. We thought it was fun and plan another go at the kocal lanes, either alone or with anykne else we mnow who wants to play a few games.

I will never understand why folks don't leave things like they find them. Gate closed for a reason so CLOSE it when you come and go. Dang.
At least you didn't have to pay a million bucks to get the trees trimmed I hope the fence is ok

Props to Florida Power for the pretty door hanger and notice -- not so much them arriving unannounced. And what's that business about leaving the gate open? A worker did that once in Arizona, and the girls got halfways up the street before Tom realized what was happening. Not very nice maybe, but I'd have been tempted to leave Beau right there.

Hello Sandra I'm glad your nightgown wasn't see through! :=) It wasn't or you would have said something. Also glad your trees have been cleared from the power lines, and the trees won't need to be cut for years now.I hope your fence is OK.

Yay for trimmed trees, at least around the wires. Our wires are underground here, so we have to pay for any tree trimming

So glad your trees got a hair cut. At least they aren't touching the wires any longer.
I'm so glad that our utilities are all underground. Makes like so much better.
You sure have a way with storytelling. LOVE It!!

I love that they trimmed them. This is excellent. One more thing to cross off the list. Winner, winner chicken dinner.

So glad they are done and you didn't have to pay...and glad you realized the gate was open.

Around here it is quite costly to get trees taken down, so I would welcome the hydro guys if they wanted to trim some for me.

Sorry they left the gate open. So glad you were able to get that done. It's important to keep the wires clear. We don't have any but Adam and Gabby do.
