Light and Heat by SmartPhone

My sister in law and I, text each other daily. Sunday AM we were in a flurry of texting, mostly complaining about the time change. She said  rain and dreary and I said bright and drought!
I sent her the view from our front porch while on the phone

She sent me the view of her backyard pool

I sent her the bright sunny and warm view from  our front porch

she returned her bright and warmth, 40 degrees, OUCH!

I said the fire is beautiful, but i like my temps better.
I told her the house a couple blocks away is a vacation rental, sleeps 8, to bring the family and stay for a week and is only $2700.00 for a week.
She replied, be right there, we will take it out of petty cash.
This set off another flurry of texts about money and we both had to go plug in our phones to charge.
I sat and pondered on our texting
and came to tell you the story.

Both are beautiful lights and warm. We sat 500 M/804 K a mere 10 hours drive in different environments,  on a phone, texting and showing each other what we see.

Life is Amazing! I wish my mother could see a Smartphone. She left us long before digital cameras and even longer before internet/wifi/smart devices. She died in 1989 and Oh the changes we have seen since then.

Technology really is a game- changer. We have friends in Melbourne, Australia and we can sit and chat to each other, they see us and we see them - and it doesn't cost a cent. Amazing!

It is a wonderful thing when we can so easily keep in touch with loved ones and friends even though separated by distance.

There has certainly been an "unbelievable" development in computer technology over the past thirty years or so...

Hello,
The smart phones are amazing, being able to text and send photos is so easy now. Great photos, I do love your bougainvillea. Take care, have a happy weekend.

Remember when a phone call like that was long distance and you were charged extra by the minute? Technology sure has come a long way. Who would have ever thought all those years ago that one day you would be able to send a photo through your phone.

Yes some technology is amazing. I love how we can see all the family at the same time on video message when we live 1,758k away from them. Yes we think how hard it was for Bill's parents living in Switzerland and no smart phones then. It was snail mail, photos and tape recordings.

I have often asked "what did we do without cellphones"?

Sandra what a fun fun fun post. Loved ever minute of it.
Approximately 2005ish, I was nearly floored when my Daddy told me he bought a desktop computer from Best Buy and the Geek Squad was coming to install it. Mama learned the basics of email. Daddy loved was obsessed with Google and Internet searches. He love westerns and spent many hours looking up his favorite cowboys and he also discovered cards games.

That rock fireplace looks like the twin to what I had in my 'heart' home back in Texas!
I love the daily routine you and your SIL enjoy and share. You've no idea how often I marvel at technology and wish my daddy were still around to experience. Not so much my mother, but how he loved new 'things.'

Yes, so many changes and they keep happening. Remember the party lines where you had to keep checking to see if someone else was done yet so you could make your call?

It is truly amazing what we can do today.I'm glad you have that time with her. My sister isn't into it that much. I do have a photo where my dad is crying looking at my niece's phone in Florida and seeing his great granddaughter in Paris. He couldn't believe the technology.

Technology is definitely amazing and I know my folks would have had a love/hate relationship with it.
I do love the ability to be connected with family and friends though. I call my computer and the internet "The Golden Handcuffs".
So glad you can be in touch with your Sis in Law..that's wonderful. After 13 years of volunteering for Celebrate Recovery every Friday night, we officially retired last night. Really hard to do but it was the right decision. Kind of left them in the hole but we had to do it for our own health (especially Dave's)I think I will miss it, especially some of the people but we can go back anytime and they will welcome us with open arms.

What fun you two have! I wonder if there has to be a point where technology just stops, and cannot do any more.

Even blogging has given the old-fashioned hobby of penpal-ing a whole new twist. Here we all are contributing our cultural differences and similarities in a great big mixing pot of blog posts and comments. My Nana would gave loved that.

I know what you mean! This morning I was sitting in front of our Dearborn heater and sent 3 photos and a video that I took less than 2 minutes earlier all the way to Hanko in Finland! And I stopped to marvel at that!!

Two contrasting views and both very pretty. How wonderful that you have such a close connection with your sister-in-law. I am extremely grateful for the ways we can keep in touch with friends and family, and our parents would have been over the moon to be able to see it.

Hi Sandra I used to have a pen pal and wait for the snail male but now I have my blog and am in touch with bloggers all over the world, not to mention the hours I spend on my cellphone with my two daughters and friends. It was so nice to read that you are so close to your sister-in-law,and your chats and photo time. I wish I had had a cellphone as a teenager, and that my mother had had a microwave oven, which most people have these days but when my mother was alive there was no such thing.
