I rarely do book reviews or movie reviews, but we watched A Man Called Otto, for the 2nd time. We watched it years ago and since all the new movies have no story, no beginning, middle and end leaving us wondering what happened I chose Otto on Netflix.
There is no murder or mayhem, no guns firing, just a good story of normal average people, the good the bad and a little of ugly.
Tom Hanks as Otto Anderson is a widower with a generally grumpy demeanor. Mariana Treviño as Marisol Marisol is Otto’s new neighbor. ... Marisol stole the show. At one place in the movie, Bob said she is my new all time favorite actress.
the good thing is, we both have memory problems and if we watch a movie years later for the 2nd time it is almost NEW since we have forgotten most of it until it happens.
How do you feel about the new movies, the ones made since 2000 that just STOP and leave us hanging and also make me want to STOP watching them.
Give me a few names of GOOD movies and maybe I can find them to watch.

Well, we really like the two Dolly Parton movies, about her growing up in the mountains as a child. One is called "Dolly Parton's Christmas Of Many Colors." There is also a movie with Reese Witherspoon that is a true store about a woman who hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. I think you would both like that. Seems I just can't remember titles! Anyway, I am looking for the Otto movie for sure!! Also "Where The Crawdads Sing" we loved.
I don't watch many movies. The ones I've tried to watch recently I give up on rather quickly. None seem to hold my interest. I think I was going to watch A man called Otto once but it was only on Netflix and I don't have that.

Otto is a remake of the 2015 Swedish film, A Man Called Ove. Hanks film hit theatres in 2022.... So if you watched on streaming it is likely only a year ago.
You could look up the Bill Nighty film Living, for a gentle 'ordinary' watch. I also greatly enjoyed The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind. It got five stars from me and my dad, who wanted to watch it again... YAM xx
Hello,
I am always looking for a good movie or show. We do have Netflix but I have a hard time finding shows I really like. I tend to watch mysteries or detective series. I did watch and I liked The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Prime Video. Last night I watched an old Agatha Christie movie on Britbox. Wishing you a Happy Easter weekend!
I recently watched A Man Called Otto too, I bought it on DVD. As someone else mentioned above it's a remake of a Swedish film (and originally a Swedish book), and I wanted to compare them. It's been a while since I watched Ove but I think they had done the American version well, nothing essential really that stood out to me as having been changed. - I haven't really thought about new movies having "no story, no beginning, middle and end" but then I don't really watch all that many new movies. And most of them I probably forget quickly, without analyzing why! I'll try to keep in mind to report if I see or think of a good one.
I have seen bo tu h the old and the remake with Hanks and loved both..generally I love the first version I see best. I dont watch many movies..but have you seem Hoosiers or Steel Magnolias.. they are probably both older...will try to think more. Oh, Secretariat or Sea Biscuit? Again older but these are movies I watch any time I come across them on TV...Secretariat was Delta's favorite movie.
thanks for the review. I've heard of this but we have not watched it. There surely have been slim pickins on TV lately. Every so often I find a good movie. Recently watched a 2022 movie with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.
For the life of me I can't remember the name. Movie takes place in early 1961s in Montana.

I am going to write that down. We mostly watch reruns of shows. What apps do you have or do you have cable - I can send you a bunch.
We (mostly me) loved Otto! Of course, I would watch anything starring Tom Hanks. You're right, that lady stole the show.
The only movies I can remember we've watched recently (i.e., in the last 12 months) that I love are: On a Wing and a Prayer, Sound of Freedom and Oppenheimer. Tho' I'm usually stingy on reviews, I'd give the last two 6 out of 5 stars. Seriously powerful.
I'm such a dud..we don't watch or go to hardly any movies because Dave just doesn't have the patience for them. Not many decent ones out there to give up our time to watch.
I do like the old classics and musicals.
Still getting spritzes of rain. Don't think we will be eating outside at our friends "ranch" tomorrow. Not sure what we will be doing.

I know that I did like this movie and I think I will watch it again. Today's movies are not for me. I'm tired of all the violence.
I did like Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks. But there's not too many good movies around these days.
When it's on YouTube I might give Otto a watch. I do like Tom Hanks on screen. Depends on what the film "rating" is. We haven't watched many modern movies since the 90s or so. I can't do all the vulgarity, nudity or explosions.
I would venture to say that 90% of what we do watch is 60s-90s British drama, detective and or Cold War spy stories. The remainder are old films.
Thanks for the recommendation. It has Spanish subtitles so I'll watch it. I'm afraid that's how I pick what I watch. Does it have Spanish subtitles? Can I bear to watch it? So I'm afraid I'm not much use. I really like some cooking competitions, even though I don't cook or eat the kind of stuff they do. Yeah, I'm a complete bust. ❤️
I am a big Tom Hanks friend ever since Bosom Buddies on TV. I never watched this movie, though I have seen many of his. Thanks for the reminder, it's now on my list.
Sandra, we have also seen this film and I watched the original one that it is based on, A Man Called Ove, which was basd on a book that I read before seeing the films. Like you and ob we also re-watch films like this weekend when we are watching the 1948 Easter Parade film as we do every holiday. We also re-watch favorite Christmas films and vintage ones. A few favorites include The Philadelphia Story, High Society, Arsenice and Old Lace and Charade. Patrick recently ordered the complete setv of Pink Panther movies starring Peter Sellers so that will be a future viewing eperience.
Mom doesn't remember watching that movie, but maybe she did. We told her to check it out, it sounds good.
