Scam Alert during my Timeout Break

I got this in my feedly news feed.  While on my break/time out, I read emails

"Beware of new QR code scam involving unsolicited packages" found HERE

Scammers are sending packages with cheap things in side addressed to you, without a return address. Inside with the gift, there is a QR code to scan to find out who sent it to you. DO NOT SCAN THE CODE..

Now – the FTC and the BBB warn that those unexpected packages could contain QR codes to steal your personal information. The QR codes usually come with instructions, urging you to scan the code to find out who sent the package. When you scan, the QR code leads you to a fraudulent website aiming to phish more information from you, like your bank details or social security number.

get a package with no address and you did not order anything?
Should you scan the barcode inside to find out who sent it?

Thank you and noted. We had it drummed into us at work to NEVER scan a QR code - ever. Apparently malicious folks can even stick nasties over the genuine QR thing in your fav restaurant menu.

Hello,
Thanks for the warning and info. There are so many scams out there. I get scam emails saying I need to pay invoices, luckily they go into my junk email folder. Take care, enjoy your day!

Thanks for the warning. I've not heard of this kind of scam here yet. I'd probably be rather suspicious about an anonymous package anyway, though...

It is sad that humans have to constantly come up with ways to deceive and steal from each other. We are unique in all the animal kingdom.

A month or so ago I ordered something from Amazon when it arrived there was a second package that contained an item I did not order. It had a QR code on it but I had already heard about the scam so I didn't scan it. I did report the package to Amazon though.

NEVER OPEN ANYTHING UNLESS YOU KNOW THE SENDER. If a big company sends you something call them personally on another number! You are so right.

I've gotten those - and no, didn't scan them. Those scammers keep coming up with new things!

As ever, thanks for the warning! I'm generally suspicious, but (bless his heart) Tom's prone to fall for this sort of stuff. His curiosity's gonna be the death of me, lol.

Glad you are back among us! And thank you for the scam alert! I've heard of that one, and have been careful not to fall for it. There's also one going around telling people that they owe traffic fines or tolls when they know they weren't ever there. Don't respond to those either. Just delete!!

I haven't gotten that one but have gotten one about my owing toll and bridge toll fines..never even look at them ..delete...
The evil of some people is just mind boggling to me.
