I went to open the door to backyard, intending to water the potted plants with the hose. Behold, Mama and Papa Duck were swimming and smiling and eating bugs, and enjoyed our 80 degree weather, the first 2 weeks of January.
We love them, Beau will not bother them, but we don't want a flock of them on the pool deck doing you know what.
In the past I just stomp my feet and make shhhhhh shhhh shhhh sounds and they lift up and out like beautiful helicopters and are gone.
For some reason, I decided to see if I could spook them with the hose, I turned it on low, like fat rain drops and they LOVED it. The male stood up
on his bottom, and danced in the rain with wings going back and forth like this one.
this is an old photo of a duck in a pond, that I took years ago.
The female swam round and round and I just let them enjoy the fake rain.
She bathed and swam and they were so happy I hated to turn it off.
Poor sweeties have not seen rain in years.
after they had fun and they were strutting around the pool deck and yard. and were picking up food, and the male came up with
one of my pet lizards in his mouth, about 3 inch long.
I said If you are eating my pets, shhhhhh shhhh shhhh and they were gone.
I did enjoy their show and our conversations. I also talk to the lizards, a lot!

What lovely visitors to have. I'm sure they appreciated your 'rain' - they will be back, hoping for more. Poor lizards, though.
It would be fun to watch them but I agree that having ducks walking around the pool deck doing you know what is not something you would want. Sounds like they really enjoyed your rain fall you gave them.

Oh, I love imagining this scenario. Sometimes I wish I was more like the animals and birds -- living and loving life in the moment, without a care in the world for what tomorrow might bring. I love that you talk to and play with them.
Wow, ducks in the yard! It's nice that Beau doesn't bother them. I do like our lizards in the yard so I would get the ducks to leave too.

The ducks are cute but can certainly make a mess. You surely don't want them nesting in your yard either.
Oh, you have ducks? Is there a pond nearby, or do they just get in your pool? I know they are fun to watch, but like you, not if they start messing things up. We've had a running battle with the Muscovy ducks here, but now that we don't feed Blackie on the porch anymore they aren't coming around as much. They tend to be a real nuisance. Yes, Blackie is home! He came back around 2:30! He's a rascal! Take care my friend, and have a lovely weekend.

Nice that they enjoyed some quality time playing in the 'rain'. But eating lizards?? Um, that is a new one for me!
That is so cool. We have some of their family that visits us on a regular basis too. Big hugs from all of us!!!
