Sunday Selfie (BeauSpeak)

Beau Saturday March 7,2026

I absolutely refused to look at the cell phone, Saturday when Mama said it was Selfie Sunday. She said be that way, took 4 shots and said forget the BeauSpeak, today will be
MAMA-Speak
Two weeks ago the below email came from Beau's Vets office.

It is warning us that URI (upper respiratory infection) sometimes called kennel cough, is rampant and that the county has issued a warning that even dogs vaccinated can still get it. They suggested no parks, no visits with other dogs, if walking stay away from any dogs you meet.. It is very contagious. This is the first ever warning like this we have ever received from the vet office or county.

Part of the email explained, just sniffing the pee, or poop or eating the poop can spread the kennel cough to your dog.

Our local news a few weeks back, notified us to be careful of things our dog eats while on a walk. A local pet owner lost her Golden Retreiver out on their morning walk, the dog picked up and swallowed a packet, that had contained cocaine laced with fentanyl and 1 grain can kill a dog. The Golden died within 3 minutes of swallowing it.

Since March is Pet Poison Prevention Month, I wanted to warn all of you that there are many plants that are poisonous to our pets. Our summer is here and I will be on patrol while walking or in the back yard for the trees that are dangerous.
this is a list of our common Florida plants on the poison list, you can search for your areas list of plants and be careful while walking your pet.
Many common Florida landscape and houseplants are toxic to dogs, with Sago Palms, Oleander, Azaleas, and Lantana being among the most dangerous. Other hazards include Caladium, Philodendron, Castor Bean, and Angel’s Trumpet. Ingestion can cause severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and, in severe cases, liver or heart failure

Oh gosh, things must be worrying for you all then. Better to stop in and keep clear of others till you get notice that the incidence of infection, the risks, have lowered. But guarding against such horrible packets of discarded drugs of all things, knowing how much canines can scavenge, even when well fed, is going to be so difficult for those that let their own dogs wander off lead.
May you stay well and safe, Beau, and don't go eating anything you ought not....

Beau is feeling camera-shy, bless him.

Beau looks good, even if he's avoiding the camera.
That's some scary notices!

We're experts at NOT looking at the camera! Good info on the poisonous plants. Scary about the URIs.

All responsible pet owners get vaccines for their dogs because so
there are a handful who don't and germs go wild. Just like with the current measles outbreak. So many not vaccinated their children. Measles has been a proven preventive for years and years. What more do they need to realize it is safe and saves lives.
Hugs Cecilia

This is such great information. (Well, except for the heartbreak of losing that Golden.)
Although our girls stay pretty much confined to the yard, I'm still going to Google plans specific to Alabama.
Thank you for being such a good momma to Beau!

We don't change the clocks until the last Sunday in March, but I'm already dreading it.

That is sad news. Best to keep Beau in the backyard for now. How sad that the Golden Retriever died.

Good grief!!! This must be the RSV or Covid for dogs. Good thing you are so vigilant and have nothing to worry about.

You still look good even if you don't look at the camera, Beau. It's good that your vet office sent the notice so you are aware of what is out there.

That's scary, but it's so good of the vet to warn you. ❤️

I guess you can't help kennel cough from Beau - you have to be careful. But a dog eating drugs is almost too much to bear in this life. They are so innocent.
I did change my time and it was hard to get up!

Oh my gosh. This is a terrible thing. I'm so sorry that pup died. Heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing this with us. So sad

Dalton almost always puts his beautiful tall ears back when he sees the camera, be it the phone or the real one. I do not use flash...Benji sometimes looks, and sometimes shies away...so I have to take tons of images to get a good one, and than hope it's in focus! Pipo used to look away almost all the time...Minko was our furry show off, LOL!
Kennel cough is around here, too. When our pups were being boarded last year, they kept coughing...so I was told they had kennel cough. Nope, they cough when they are excited, esp Benji, and Dalton also coughs a lot when he is pulling for a walk. Even wt=ith a harness, witht he front hookup. They have always gotten te vaccine for that, too.

That is terribly sad about that poor dog dying cause someone dumped their drugs. Sheesh:(

our world is no longer our world and so much things changed to the bad and dark side... we hope all pet owners are still like hawks and see what their pups find on the street...

Oh my goodness, stay safe out there. This letter was very alarming. I know you have been very observant when walking sweet Beau. Dogs think the great outdoors is their treasure ground and everything is exciting to sniff at, and taste.

Lucy: Beau, we love seeing you, even if you won't look at the cameral. I don't like having my picture taken either, so I'm happy when Mom picks Xena or Chia.
Amy: Thanks for the reminder about March being Pet poison awareness month. I had been thinking about replanting azaleas in front of the house, and your post reminded me why I had the other ones removed.
