Our God is an Awesome God

My husband and I stood in Awe a few weeks back as 3 couples of brilliant orange butterflies did there aerobatic dance over the water of our pool. Swooping and Dancing and round and round. 6 of them had us standing and staring. We did not fully understand at the time that we were watching God's Plan for placing more beauty in our world. if you missed part one butterfly  story click here

My friend Holly said the butterfly was depositing her eggs on that passion plant, that it is the host plant and to leave it alone and watch it. We had 6 of these caterpillars and we watched from the time they were 1/4 inch long until this size. Holly said to look for their cocoons, and we never found one . She said they have to beat their wings for an hour to get the blood flowing before they can fly.

day before yesterday we  watched this new one that fell out of a bush on to the deck and sat there fluttering new life into its veins. I used the zoom lens in order to give it room to get ready to fly. It was one of the most awesome sights I have seen in a long time.

We watched as in just a few minutes it lifted off and flew straight to the moss rose that at any given moment of the day has had a brilliant and bright orange butterflies on it for weeks now, they love the moss rose. We now have so many of them in our yard, they almost sit on us as we walk, they have no fear of us and at times have almost flown on my shoulder.

The word awesome is bandied about with little thought these days. It's a word that used to be reserved for things that truly filled us with awe like God. The psalmist writes that the LORD is awesome and rules the earth. I use the word Awesome here because that is what I think about when I see these wonderful Creations Of God that he has shared with us.
"Genesis 1:22 says
"God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth"

and also the butterflies

I so agree with you on the use of the word 'awesome'. Too, too much today. And butterflies? They're a miracle in action. We don't get butterflies much around 'these parts'. Maybe up in the higher elevations but cactus doesn't seem to be their thing, ya' know.

Great post!

I'm so fascinated that the caterpillars are the same colour as the butterflies!
I understand that it must have been truly awesome to see them "trying their wings" for the first time.

What a great event to witness. The word may be overused but something like this definitely qualifies as awesome.

Awesome indeed! These are very beautiful Sandra!

You might be surprised to know that I shot some butterflies this weekend! It will take me a while to get them on my blog but I just wanted to share so you know I'm overcoming my fear of the pretty beasties! ;o)
