I think Love is probably strong enough to be the opposite of both hate and apathy... Love and Hate both involve strong feelings, they are alike in that way but not in how they behave. Love can be passionate but also patient and gentle. Hate is never gentle.

Hi Sandra---Interesting thoughts about Love, Hate and Apathy... I don't really connect Love and apathy as opposites --although I do 'see' the connection...

Apathy is being unconcerned, not caring, being indifferent, unresponsive, uninterested.. That is definitely a bad trait --but is it the OPPOSITE of Love?

Well--Love is being concerned, showing compassion, being responsive to a situation, being interested... It's having a passion toward something , showing fondness, yearning, worshipping, desiring, relationship, etc.... SO--we can see that there are meanings of love that are opposite of apathy.....

What about hate???? it's loathing, detesting, dislike, abhor, despise, find intolerable. That's pretty strong, isn't it???? And --it's definitely the opposite of both love and apathy I think... With hate, you definitely have a strong opinion. If you are apathetic, you don't really have an opinion at all... Neither can be good I'm sure....

What we need is LOVE..... Sorry I went on and on --but this made me think...

Thanks.
Hugs,
Betsy

I have heard this statement before about apathy being the opposite of love, and I do think that I agree!! But the WATER DROPS! They look not like dew, but like big bubbles!! How wonderful, how did such a thing happen? It makes me HAPPY!!! I have never been able to get a good picture of any kind of raindrops or dew on anything, but I'm working on it and determined to. I went to your friend's new blog and left a big long welcoming comment, she must think I'm daft. You have to assure her that I'm harmless, and only very enthusiastic! I told her to ask you all about me. She will probably be calling you in a few minutes saying "Who is this nut, anyway?" Of course I love her blog so far. The first post is classic. So SHE was the one you were helping the other day! If you taught her, she will have no problems!

The water on the flowers and the flowers (impatiens?) themselves look so fresh - you can really capture the essense of beauty. Caladiums, too, very pretty. Nothing in this world like the feeling of love.

Very interesting comments on love, apathy and hate. I can understand why love is considered the opporsite of apathy, but then I'm not sure where hate then fits in relation to love. Is it possible to love someone or something and hate it at the same time? I just don't know.

Very interesting thought. I think at times love might be the opposite of either.

Those first pangs of love are filled with extreme emotion, very similar to hate. Maybe later it could be compared to apathy. I'll have to think on this awhile.
