"Wolfe's Way"

Robert and Kathy's ranch, "Wolfe's Way" is home to 7 horses, 1 donkey, 2 dogs. Above is "Cowboy" (no he is not a pointer) Cowboy is a joy to be around, he is so friendly and also rides on horses (with mommy of course). I was concerned that this sweet little guy might get stepped on by a horse, but he nimbly darts between their feet and knows exactly where to be at the right time.

This sweet little filly is "Cookie" newest member of the Wolfe's horse herd and 3 months old. Cookie is Skeeter's Sister and they are very close in age, but of course Cookie is MUCH larger. Kathy is NOT Mommy Kathy to Cookie or any of the horses.

I was told it is not a good idea to make a "pet" of a horse. It is ok to make a pet of the donkey(that's his job), not the young horse. Horses have to know who is in charge. Cookie might be petting size now, but she has doubled in size in 3 months and by a year can weigh 1000 or more pounds. It's ok to kissy kiss on a little donkey but not on a 1500 pound horse.

When the gate opens to let visitors in, they are met with hugs and kisses and lots of sweetness by "V" She is head guard dog for Wolfe's Way (shhhh don't tell Cowboy) and loves strangers.
NOTE: she is only friendly if the Rancher are at home, no visiting allowed when "V" is left in charge.

Cookie is just adorable!! I would HAVE to kiss and pet her! I have never heard all this about not making a pet out of a horse! Now I will say this after watching lots of "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan. We make pets of our dogs, but we can also make ourselves the Alpha (leader of the pack) and let the dog know who's boss, so we can have the best of both. But maybe horses don't work that way, an unusual and real interesing bit of info that I didn't know.

I like these pictures from Wolfe's Way. Cowboy does a good job of imitating a pointer. Cookie is cute.

Another great post, Sandra... How did they get the name Wolfe's Way? Is that there last name???? Neat name!!!!!

Sounds like they are great 'parents' to all of the animals there... Cookie precious.... Is Kathy a 'horse whisperer'??? Looks like she knows what she is doing--when it comes to the animals.

Glad 'V" protects the property--especially when the owners are gone...

Great post... Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy

I know a lady who would probably bring her horse in the house if she could and plant a big kiss on their noses!! I'm sure you'd have to be careful. I've been on them but I've never owned one- I'm sure they'd make delightful company! What a sweet sharp looking dog..nice photos Sandra!
