Because She Could....DEEP thoughts

Why does a seagull fly over the sea?

Because if it flew over the bay it would be a bagel

As I snapped my breakfast half bagel, I thought, I am not a photographer but a snapper. I am a wanna be a photographer  but find I have no patience, I  want to be a writer but have  no patience. This all makes sense to me now, why I am MadSnapper, not Mad Photographer. I love taking Snap Shots of any and everything I see.

Do you think there is a difference in Snap Shots and Photography?

When a blonde was looking for breakfast. She opened a box of Cherios and said "O look at these mini bagels

UPDATE on yesterday post about the police officer that was killed. Last night they caught the shooter and he is a 16 year old kid. Pray for our officers and for our youth

I never really thought about it that way which may be a language thing. We have to clarify by adding amateur or professional photographer. I can see a difference whether you are mostly interested in just catching whatever is before you, vs making arrangements to get it "just right". I've been getting more interested in details since the digital camera and blogging but I'll no doubt remain amateur, can't see myself dragging around lots of different lenses and tripods etc.

Uh oh, now we get the blond jokes! I love your bagel shot.

Your guestion reminds me of a conversation I had with some friends years ago, before digital so we all had SLR's.

The definition we came up with was a picture Isnap shot) is capturing the moment with out thinking about lighting, etc. A photograph is planned. Not very technical but we were young.

Squirrel Queen's youthful explanation sounds pretty on target. The difference between a pro and amateur photog is simpler to articulate. The pro gets money for photos, whether they are classified as snapshots or not.

You are a great photographer, and now you are turning to comedian. "comedian-a person who acts in comedy, a person who writes comedy, any person who is comicaly funny or amusing". thats why you are my hero.

You are my "mad" photographer comedian guru! I love viewing everyday things through your lens.

So very sad that some young people (or anyone for that matter) place no value on the lives of others.

Best,
Bonnie

I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between a photograph and a snap shot. I guess a snap shot is just more informal (or more spur-of-the-moment) than a carefully planned photograph. But a snap shot can certainly be a great photograph.

George said what I would say... Just taking pictures of anything and everything --without thinking about the settings, etc. to me is a snapshot....

A 'real' photographer is someone who stands there and makes sure that all of the camera settings are JUST RIGHT...

I am more of a snapshot person myself. Besides --when taking pictures of birds, one doesn't have enough time to work on the settings... ha

Betsy

16????!!!! How sad, two lives wasted, just a child. LOVE LOVE LOVE your thoughts today, this week you ARE a WRITER, keep it UP! I never thought about it but you are right. A snap shot is from a snapper, a photograph is from a professional, although I think that both can cross the line at times. A photographer can have a bad day and produce snapshots, and a snapper can have a good day and produce stunning photos.

Good one, my friend! AND I am thankful they caught the person. What a kind of bringing up has that young man had to make him do something so bad....things are certainly not like they use to be....

I do think there is a difference between true photography and snapshots but that doesn't mean that you can't get awesome photos from snapping. I'm a lot like you in that I'm also a wanna be and lack patience. Guess that's why I never seem to be able to focus on just one thing. I need variety.
How sad that the shooter was only 16. He's ruined his entire life before it even really began. A real shame.

What ever the definition, you Sandra are a photographer(whether you get paid or not) Perhaps your pay is the bravos you get from your "fans".
Love your style and the joy I get from coming here.

How full of sorrow our world can be. Whatever you are, keep taking those photos.

I will say a prayer for them.

I think there might be a difference - not in the quality of the photos - with the subjects - you are more spontaneous and a professional takes certain pictures that are set up.

Unless of course you are with National Geographic - which I would love to do!

Love,
sandie

I can understand what you mean..but it is hard to put things together so that they flow. Now I think your photos..snapshots or what have you are detailed..like your header and photoshop work- but you post on a daily basis so I'd feel a little overwhelmed. Today was another shopping day and when I came back I had a bunch of unfinished work! Despite that, I was able to get a post up:)

Sandra, not sure of what you are called, but I do know just from my own blog experience that chronicling everyday happenings through both words and images has become quite a passion for Grenville and myself. In a way, it makes you be conscious of the world around and that's ALWAYS a good thing, so keep on snapping away!

Don't know the difference in a snapper and a photographer. All I know is you bring a lot of joy into others lives by your great posts. Keep up the good work...
