Civil War Weekend # 1

Saturday Morning, my friend Diane and I drove to Parrish, FL, for the Civil War Weekend at the Florida Railroad museum.   The weekend included the authentic campground of the 74th Ohio Volunteers and the 2nd Florida Volunteers.   Click on Photos to enlarge for details.

For those of you in other countries or for the very young, The American Civil War (1861-1865) was called the War Between the States. Eleven of the states seceded from the union and formed the Confederate States of America.

Our day include a tour of the camp and visits with the soldiers and a train ride with a  battle reenactment. As we boarded the train, we were guarded by Union Soldiers and just before we pulled out the Confederate Soldiers attacked.

I am a Southerner, born and raised in Georgia, Kentucky and Florida. In the South the War Between the States is still remembered and talked about even after 150 years has passed.

To be continued, And continued And Continued. The MadSnapper gone Mad , ONCE AGAIN.

I like all these scenes in sepia, it give them a more authentic look. The details they put into it are amazing. It must have been great fun to walk around the encampment.

Oh my goodness, you mean those Yankees were guarding the train. You must have been their prisoners and the Southern boys were trying to rescue you. Gracious, that must have been exciting. TTH!

Great, great granddaddy was a Civil War soldier when he was very young. I have been told that in his later years he would walk up to fifty miles to take part in reenactments.

Sandra, we are from NJ and now living in VA and we also have noticed that southerners seem to remember the Civil War a bit more, or maybe have not got over losing? We were amused to learn that Lee-Jackson Day is celebrated for Robert E Less and Stonewall Jackson especially since we don't know that there is a Grant day.

Haha - some people still think it is going on! It is amazing that they lived the way they did back then - we are so spoiled now. Can you imagine riding in those covered wagons? Going to the bath room. Rtc.

Love, sandie

We have a Civil War Encampment, in our city park, yearly. They are wonderful.

Great photos, Sandra, and the sepia was just the right touch! The re-enactment looks really interesting. It was such a terrible war, I'm glad I wasn't living in the midst of all that during that time!

I just read about this reenactment and thought would be fun to go but alas it was to far away.
Thanks for sharing, Sandra.

Wow I think your header is my favorite this time, is this a re- enactment of the triage field hospital? You did the whole header really classy!!! And I love the edits, you made them sepia or something. This reminds me of when you went on that train ride with the bank robbers. Which is your favorite? Do they do this once a year?

What I didn't know but certainly found out quickly on a weekend visit to Atlanta many years ago, is that kindasorta the war still isn't over. I was so surprised to see the Confederate flags still flying and used at events. And I think somebody called me a Yankie. Was it my accent?? :)))

I totally enjoyed seeing Atlanta and the history that occured there and Clark Gable's chair somebody has saved from the premiere of GWTW. I sat in it. Oh gigglegigglegiggle.

Hi Sandra earlier this week I read a report (you have probably all ready h shared it) about the numbers killed in the Civil War.
It's a war I first became aware of as a child... cards in bubble gum packets telling the tale.
I guess you remember them.
