Independence Day, July 4, 2012

FREEDOM DOESN'T GIVE US THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT WE PLEASE, BUT TO DO WHAT PLEASES GOD!

 the first battle of the Revolutionary War, was fought at Concord April 18, 1775, the Declaration of Independence was signed July 4th, 1776.

236 years ago our country fought a war that ended with the signing of the Delcaration of Independence . on the 4th of July we remember the war and the fact that those who died are why we became a free democratic country. (note: these days it's Kinda/Sorta free democracy)

Declaration of Independence was signed six years before the end of the war and seven years before the signing of the "Treaty of Paris" which officially gave the U.S. their independence

In 1870, the U.S. Congress made Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal employees.

In 1938, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday.

We watched The Patriot again last week, during our storm days.
below are Scenes from the movie. Bob and I kept saying WHY would ANYONE stand in a straight line with guns and walk directly into the other lines. it makes no sense at all.

My favorite scene is when Mel Gibson as The Patriot runs to the front of the battle to rally the soldiers to the flag. Makes me tear up looking at it. Above is a clip from below video just in case you don't have time to listen to it. 2.40 minutes and it tells the story of the fight.

they died 260 years ago that we could be FREE....and they still die today don't forget to vote, lest we lose that freedom
