Shame on Maxwell House

Our favorite coffee cost the same as it did last week, but at closer look, we are now minus 3.7 oz of coffee, they put a different handle on it and the words NEW but neglected to say it is NEW because they deducted several cups of coffee. Shame on Maxwell House.

No, these have nothing to do with coffee, they are dead pods on the purple trumpet bush and Just Because Photos

It's our favorite coffee too. That's a common practice in manufacturing. Take away a few ounces, or slices, or whatever and reduce the size of the package slightly. It's been going on for many years.

I like those pods. Your just 'cause photos are cool!

It is happening to everything....more so lately. What are we to do?

Like your"just because" photos.

The'just because' photos are fascinating. Were you thinking 'brown' at the time -
'brown'... 'coffee'...? Were you 'browned off' with the coffee company?
Lots of potential for photography now that plants are drying out with so many interesting shapes and shades of...brown.

Shame on Maxwell House!

Very interesting photos.

We had very heavy rain, thunder etc. during the night. Can't wait to look at the rain gauge later.

Enjoy this Saturday. My niece and brother are visiting this a.m.

They always do that don't they?! Shame on Maxwell House!

Cool pics of the pods.

Lovely morning here, went out for a run and it feels great. Now housework is calling my attention and then hopefully I'll get to work on my new cars too.
Have a great day!

Neat pod, looks like it could be a broach.
Shame on alot of complaines. I just saw the RITZ packages. Same size box, shorter cracker packages inside. No longer 5lb of sugar, its now down to 4 but they make the package taller to fool the eye. Noticed toliet paper.. larger tube in diameter and shorter so you get less on the roll. Bottled water too, less in the bottle...

I will be computerless for afew days, computer leaves me this AM.

That's been going on for a long time. It is sneaky!! It also says that the product producers think the consumer is not going to notice!! Gotta have that coffee no matter what.

Best,
Bonnie

Isn't that how it goes with so many products. Those pods look like cute little flowers.

I've seen that happen with so many things. Costco's brand name laundry soap. They've chinzed on that over the years.

Afraid this is a pretty common practice. -sigh-

My husband's coffee... We get regular coffee... And he began to ask about it, it tasted *differently* some how.... We looked closely at the can...

In a graph, they tell us that what we are buying, is half regular coffee and half decaf. WHAT??????
Grrrrrr... At least, that's what it looks like, to us.

Grrrr....

Shame on Maxwell House is right! Many grocery items are like this, is fact most of them. The cereal box is the same width and height, but the box is thinner. What makes me mad is they think we are stupid and will not notice!Love your brown pods. They look lacy.

You have a very nice blog and now I am your newest follower. You pictures are awesome. Isn't that so frustrating when food companies "rip us consumers off" by lowering the weight of the contents in the package. Seems dishonest to me, but I know food prices are going up a lot, and will go up even more due to the drought. Looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

I do believe they think we are too stupid to notice. It's very irritating to be ripped off by my favorite brands.

TexWisGirl said...

i know manufacturers do this a lot when they market to dollar general and family dollar, etc. they cost less than at your grocer, but the volume you are getting is less.

I am glad this sneaky practice of many products has come to others attention. Breyer's. Ice cream is the same

I know that if the keep reducing the toilet paper on the toilet paper rolls we are in big trouble.:) As always enjoy your photo choices.:)

I am not a coffee drinker, so I do not need to worry about this. Sorry for those that do though.... Wonderful blog you have. Excellent and brilliant pictures. Blessings.

Bottom line is DON'T MESS WITH THE SNAPPERS COFFEE---she'll get MAD!!
Unfortunately I think pretty much all items are like this now...I noticed it with a box of cereal. :(
Happy saturday Sandra

That doesn't surprise me at all. I've noticed it with so many items here lately more than ever! I can't give up my coffee. lol Love your dead pods, you make art out of so much! :)

Shame for sure. I notice it all the time--no more 1/2 gallon of ice cream. Everything has shrunk.

Inger said...

So many things on the grocery shelves are shrinking while retaining the same price or even with the price going up. The pod pictures look like jewelry. Amazing how beautiful nature is if you take the time to look close enough.

Oh yeah...everybody does it. Maddeneing, isn't it?

I buy Maxwell House if it's on sale but normally buy Folgers. They do that a lot with reducing package size. That way they can keep the price the same. It's a sneaky way of raising prices.

You have the most incredible photos! And I still love that leaf on your header.

We're getting cheated more and more in consumables. Cereal boxes are thinner, ice cream boxes are shorter, etc. etc. It's what happens with the feds start printing money. The dollar becomes worth less...and less. Food producers either have to raise the price or give us less in order to make a profit. Usually they do both. And it's only going to get worse when we get round 3 of 'quantitative easing.' AND the fact that we had a drought over much of the country is going to affect the price of everything that contains major commodities. This is not a fun time.

There is always a surprise :)

I guess Maxwell go by the principle "just because we could" too ;) but applying it differently... I like your way better!

So frustrating! And there's not a darn thing we can do about it.... :(

I think alot of companies are doing that...keeeping same price but dropping the amount by alot...trying to trick us into thinking we are still gettting the same amount for the same price...

Beatrice P. Boyd said...

Sandra, shame is right and the same thing has been happening with formerly 1/2 gallon ice cream containers, even though we are not supposed to be enjoying this treat for awhile now. Do the manufacturers really think folks won't notice?

Angela said...

I'm glad I don't drink coffee! I hate it when companies put NEW on their labels and then downsize their products and charge more! Usually they charge more for less! Popcorn has went up in price. I bought 2 jars of popping corn because I don't have a microwave. I make it the old fashioned way. I'm hoping I bought it before the price goes up even more!

Kathy said...

I like those "Just Because" pics.

Rose said...

So many companies are doing that...leaving things the same price, and some even same package, but minus ounces. I always get the plain old palmolive dish soap....I get the little 16 ounce bottles...cheaper than the big bottles which usually have a different scent anyway.

Well, I was out at Wally world the a couple weeks ago and they didn't have any on the shelf...then a few days ago, there it was...but now instead of 16 it is 14 ounces...same bottle, same price.

Those sneaky reductions in how much you are getting are so prevalent these days. Glad MadSnapper hasn't downsized on the fascinating images.
