Gadgets Galore...

YES, this photo was taken by MadSnapper
I have two pills that I can't take until FOUR hours after I take the Thyroid pill.

My ancient wind up egg timer, only DINGS! once and I never hear it OR I hear it and don't jump up causing me to miss my pills.

I came home with the cute round one (5.97) he said just put in 4 hours, I said it only takes an hour, he  said why didn't you get one that you can set for four hours, when you take your pill just push the preset 4 hours.

why did you get a one hour?  my answer was this one was 6 and the other 10. He said you will have the same problem with the one hour that you had with the one hour egg timer that was only one hour.

(did I mention I had destroyed the package and receipt?)

I drive the 2.9 miles to WM and buy the 10.00 one and lo and behold, yet another Gadget that is Smarter than a 68 year old........

The round one is simple, just tap the minutes you want by tapping the button that says minutes.

Guess how you set 4 hours on the big kahuna timer? it types and fills in from the left side, this older than a 5th grader typed 35960. Gotcha! stupid timer!

I set it and in 4 hours it went to dinging with a loud noise worse than fingernails on a blackboard. If you are younger than 40 you probably don't know what a blackboard is.

Have you figured it out yet? can you guess the things I was thinking while trying to figure out what to type?

3 hr 59 min 60 seconds equals 4 hours.... STOP LAUGHING!  it SAID to type in hours, minutes, seconds and I DID.

While typing this post it dawned on me I could have typed 40000, so I ran to the kitchen and did that and it works..I SAID STOP LAUGHING!

any way it is set and has total recall, so I swallow the pill, reach up to the fridge magnet, touch recall and start and at the end of 4 hours all you know what breaks lose and will DING for 1 minute 79 seconds.... say what?  why the extra 79 seconds?

Now if only I remember to punch the recall button when I swallow the pill, I am set, with not one but two new timers.

I got a FREE Kindle, and it came Via Kayak..... to be continued and you don't EVEN want to know the fun I had with the instructions on the Kindle.

Geez, now I'm really confused. Of course the last egg timer I has was the wind-up kind. I would use my phone.

Kindle? Didn't we have a conversation about that now long ago?

Kayak?????

Could you repeat all that please? I got up way too early to understand what you said.

All I know is that I hope it all works out for you and that you remember to push the timer every day after you take your thyroid pill. Good luck!

A free kindle? My sister has one and she loves it!!!!!!!

NO laughing at you and Technology! It is horrible! Technology is thought up by some *devil's spawn,* to help us. Hehhhhhhhhhhhh... To help all those, younger than us! That's the big secret.

All these techy things are meant to help the young, and make the 'Olden' feel .... Welllllll... To feel "OLDEN"! Grrrrrrrr.......

Good post! Funny!! We have one just like the round one. I bought it for cooking, because I need more than one. Have one on the stove. Can never find the round one because the kids use it when they come here, for playing some kind of game. Went and bought a red old timey looking one from WM that does more than the one ding. I use that for my second one. Bet you saw it while you were shopping.
Love ya, Mad

I love new gadgets but it gets frustrating figuring them out. Especially when a person doesn't like reading instruction manuals! Ha!

PS looking forward to finding out how you won a free Kindle and most of all how you figured it out.

Great post, Sandra, and I can sooo relate! I have a thyroid pill to take first thing in the morning and a half hour before I eat anything. Then wait 5 hrs before taking vitamins and other pills. Then I have to take a statin drug in the evening. It's hard to keep up with all this!! I think I need a few alarm clocks to set to remind myself!

I'm probably in the top tier as far as being the most techy-challenged goes. I have a Kindle, but haven't yet figured out how to get books downloaded (or is it uploaded? I never remember) to it!!

i am not a "how-to" person actually, while i love new gadgets i get always frustrated whenever i have to try to figure them out.

I love your timer story Sandra - even though it might have been a little over my head! lol

Free kindle - how did you do that?

Rose said...

Oh, my goodness! I have laughed till I cried and then laughed some more!!! Oh, that is so something me or Roger would do...one of those DUH moments.

Rose said...

Meant to add what is too funny is we just the other day bought those same two times...I wanted both because I need one for everything I do...and sometimes have two or three things going...or else Roger needs one and I need one.

Also, you will love your kindle if you are like me. I didn't think I would like one and didn't get one till just last year...got it for the free stuff I can get. Mine has about 400 books on it, and I have only paid for maybe 6 or 8....

Ann said...

OK, I am laughing but not at how you set the time. I'm laughing because I would have bought the cheaper one too....lol

A free kindle? Cool. Can't wait to hear about how that happened.

I have about 6 or 7 vitamins I take every morning. As far as a timer I use the one on the stove or microwave.
Free Kindle and by kayak??? How cool...can't wait to hear the story!!!

So sorry my dear, but I had to laugh!!
You sound just like me...
Good luck with your crazy timers and taking your pills on time.
A free Kindle...how cool is that?
Have a super rest of Monday.

you make me laugh ... and I do the same type of things ...

Ah, thanks for the laughs, Sandra. For sure I feel your pain when it comes to figuring out those new-fangled items. :)) Someday the young-'uns will be in the same boat and will understand how we feel. There was a time ( I know you remember) when it was said we couldn't trust anyone over 30. We think life was simpler then...but our parents didn't think so.

Inger said...

A bit difficult to stop laughing after all that!! Congrats on the free Kindle! I, for one, want a full report on how you like it.

I've been having so much fun (not) with trying to program an indoor/outdoor thermometer that has to be set with date, time, and every other thing imaginable. The first one got sent back because it was too small. The second one got sent back because the instructions said it would come on and be ready to set once you got the remote sensor installed. Guess what?

simple is better...my mind does not relate to technology at all.

Sandra, you could be a product tester for gadgets because yourvwriteups are way more entertaining and informative too in between the laughs that is.
