While wiping the kitchen table, I saw something flutter by and down to the ground, walked over to see who stopped by and there were Mr and Mrs Cardinal walking and grabbing things off the ground, suddenly a male Jay showed up, then another male Jay.. I watched them eat for about 10 minutes , opened the door causing them to leave and you can see what they were eating in above photos.

avocado the size of a BB 10 feet up in the tree |
Can you find the blow fly? |
Looks like another bumper crop of fruit for the squirrels and birds in a few months. Sunday morning, I was totally entertained by two jays while making up the bed. One sat on the sill, 3 feet from my nose, the other stood on the rim to the rain barrel. once again they were belly up to the avocado buffet.

I'm glad to hear you finally got some rain. Things are really going to be growing and blooming in your yard now.
The birds and squirrels are going to have a real feast in the coming months. Me, I'm thinking guacamole!
When we had our house, I had a bird feeder outside the window. The jays would come and get the sunflower seeds. I loved watching them, and listening to them.
Yes, I found the blowfly...the birds must have really had a feast!
I enjoyed your pics very much. We (and the cats) are being entertained by mockingbirds.
So, were they eating your avacado buds? Stupid birds. I love avacados and would be chasing them with a broom. :)
Loved this hike into the nature sanctuary that is your yard!
So many interesting things in your yard to photograph. The avocado buds are so pretty.
You feed your birds well :)
