Yes, Virginia, that IS a lawn chair on the roof of the house next door. The children, 6, 4 and 3 live next door to us.
They climb on the roof of the house they rent, they stand on the playhouse and throw things at our dogs, and in our pool, and at one time I counted 7 soccer balls on the roof. they drag a ladder and go up to get them and treat the roof like a playground.
See the Maple tree below? last week I saw the 4 year old almost to the top of the tree with the other one climbing up behind him, I came in the house so I would not witness the accident that might happen. the roof shows you he was more than 2 stories high....
Above is my stash of pine cones, while shooting the pic of the chair on roof, I just snapped this shot . 3 days later I noticed all the pine cones were closed tightly. this is the 4th time in a few weeks they open wide then close up. I have never seen this before. Have you?
UPDATE 8 AM TODAY.... I JUST SOMEHOW MARKED ALL BLOGS AS READ IN FEEDLY AND AM WADING THROUGH ON THE DASH BOARD. IF I MISS YOU IT IS BY ACCIDENT.

Sounds like there are no adults living there. I was known as a tyrant parent and that is why. Can't stand child hoodlums. I didn't know pine cones did that. Hummm.
I first read, 'If I miss you it is not by accident,' and had to re-read. lol
What a cute kid in the tree!lol Where on earth are the parents???
I think pine cones open up when it's hot and close when it's cold. At least I've gathered some tightly closed pinecones and set them in a warm oven to open up - and they do. (but I didn't know that they would close again if cold. Hmmmmmm.)
Woof! Woof! terrible. Unsupervised children and worst part is that they are just renting. I wonder how they behave inside. We are overwhelmed with our feedly too missed so much we felt bad clicking on mark as read. Happy Thursday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
Mmmmmm, do these kids have a Mother in residence?
I would worry for the kids too...I do not know anything about pine cones but the pics are neat
Did not know pinecones did that!
Those neighbor kids would make me nervous too.
oh my gosh that just scares me to death about the kiddos...I've seen pinecones do that...not sure why they do...
How frustrating for you - as someone commented, I wonder what goes on inside the house!
Crazy kids. Even more upset that no one is watching them (parents I mean). Yep I see pine cones do this. It's very cool.
Blessings,
Goose
Guess it would not help to talk to the parents - they obviously don't care.
And I didn't know pine cones did that either.
sandie
Hi Sandra....Obviously no parent home next door. I hope nothing happens to one of them. It could be serious.
I have seen that happen to pine cones out in our yard. Weird!
The parent, if there is one around, is obviously not paying attention. Maybe the mother is one of those who is too busy trying to catch the attention of a man online. I heard about a couple of those just last night. Gee willikers...the things people do. Never ceases to amaze me. Both these women I heard about have children, too.
Renters! I did NOT know pine cones did that. Next time I find some, I am bringing them home and watching them do their stuff : )
neighbors like that would drive me CRAZY!
i do not know a thing about pine cones.
Where are the parents? And what is feedly?
Maybe they close up when they are too cold? Now I am very curious and on my way to Google it. How do you STAND those kids? I love kids, but throwing stuff at your dogs...have you asked the parents about that? What they do by themselves is one thing, but your dogs are off limits! The roof thing is truly unbelievable!!! But you HAVE the picture! How long have they lived there? Are they good neighbors in other ways?
Weird that the cones can close again when they're separated from the tree??
That 4-year-old does not look quite trustworthy :D hehe
Neighbours who don't know how to control their children can create quite the problem. I have had some in the past that I was ready to call the cops on.Yikes!
I feel you pain on marking all posts as read. I've done that several times over the years! Actually I am liking having Feedly and Bloglovin' in case I push the wrong button :) One of those kids is going to really hurt themselves. That is sad. I love, love, love the pine cones.
Geez! A four year old on the roof. That is too much! Well, there are so many pine cones around here, that I must have seen that phenomenon but right now I just can't remember.
I guess I'm with everyone else on the kids matter.
It doesn't sound like there is a whole lot of supervision going on.
A 4 year old in the tree...yikes!!
That's an accident ready to happen.
Very interesting pine cones, I always thought the cones opened up and that was it.
Throwing things at your babies?!!!! I would have a word with the parents, but they probably don't care! I can't believe that such young aged kids are totally unsupervised! My ex husband showed my son how to climb up on our roof and jump onto the trampoline. I told my son if I ever see him do this I will get rid of the trampoline. My son didn't do it, but one of his friends did and bye bye trampoline!
I had no idea that pine cones close back up! Nature is so awesome!
A 4 year old climbing the tree!!! My My...they should definitely not be outside unsupervised.
Great shots of the pine cones :) Hope you've had a good day.
Where oh where are their parents??? Scary! I think it is a change in temp that makes them open and close...but don't quote me on that! :-)
Your retreat inside was a good strategy. Staying may have led to words with parents. And many parents today fail to appreciate the views of child rearing of an older generation. I know I sound like a nag, but it seems to me that many regard commonsense practices as too much work. OK, so, yes, I'm a nag!
And to think how nervous I get with Lorelei doing some things and me right there! Is there anyone at home besides the kids...I could handle it all though except for them throwing stuff at my dogs.
I would have to hide my eyes. If the balls went missing maybe they would not throw so many over.
Its a worry when you see kids not being supervised properly. We have kids next door who ride their push cars on the road. We don't have a lot of traffic but it only takes one car to wipe them out.
Funny thing to notice about the pine cones.
Just checking in this morning! Wow those kids must be something else. The moisture in the air affects the pine cones opening and closing. See you again soon, have a great weekend!
neat photos!
no thoughtful neighbours, that's for sure. they simply don't care.
i didn't know that about pine cones.
how interesting.
thanks for sharing.
Shaking head....I think i lived next door to those kids at one time LOL. I am always worried that when one of the tenants in our complex moves out some wild child or children will move in :)
who in their right mind lets children that age (or any age for that matter) play on the roof?
I didn't know pine cones did that. I thought once they opened they stayed open
I think their opening and closing has to do with temp and moisture content, not sure however.
On the roof and in trees and the oldest is 6? Where are the parents. If it were me I might be showing the tree photo to the cops.
