Saturday @ Whitney Beach

Saturday morning we went out for breakfast and then down to our favorite beach, Whitney Beach better known as Beer Can Island.
Click the link for previous post on this beach.
We never know what we will find due to weather that changes it from month to month. We stepped out on the beach where Bob is standing and  below is the path to Beer Can Island UNDER WATER due to high tide.

MadSnapper whined "we can't get there, the tide is in, wahhhhhh and you KNOW I am not wading in water that I can't see what is there, beside my capris will get wet.

Bob says " follow me, see that little path? and takes off through the mangroves.

I follow whining " it will not take us there, you are going the wrong way.."

Bob says "come ON it will take us there ( note he is carrying my shoes for me, so i can madly snap"

Bob says "watch out, sharp stick here, and SEEEEEE, there is the water, we are almost there.

Just a little further he says to the gasping staggering madly snapping snapper...

See: I told you it would take us to the island.

And there it was, our most favorite beach. Beer Can Island on Longboat Key.

Snapper yells "do NOT walk out to the end of that tree" he was, he really was...

UPDATE 7:45 AM Sunday.
Please pray for the family of a 6 year old boy that drowned at this beach yesterday after we left. Pray they will find his body today. He was swept away in the rip currents from the other side of the pass and towards this beach.

Enjoyed walking along with Bob thru the photos, Sandra, and glad you both made it to Beer Can safely. Saddened to read about the young boy who was swept away and hope there will be resolution for his family as it seems there was no hope he survived.

What a beautiful spot...then you had to throw that sadness at me. Will people never learn the dangers?

I was so excited when I realized you were going to Beer Can Island. I love it when you go there. It is so beautiful. Going the back way was fun, too.

BUT...I am devastated to think a little boy lost his life there yesterday afternoon. My sympathy and prayers go out to the family. It must have been awful.

The first and last pictures of Bob are awesome!!!! LOVE the last one of him! He is a trailblazer, leading you through the beach jungle! AND carrying your shoes! What a cool adventure. And as for you, you are braver than me, going through the path in your bare feet, not knowing WHAT you might step on! I love the view picture you have here showing when you first broke through, what your view is.

I'm glad to see that Bob was right and got you over to that gorgeous island. I love all of your shots of the driftwood, sand and water.

The first thing I learned about the ocean was to never turn your back on her. I am amazed at the chances people take on the beaches. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of that little boy.
