Point Pleasant - Downtown Bradenton

The month of March is Manatee County Heritage Days...a month long celebration of our history. This March will be our 35th celebration. This includes parades and Open Houses of our Historical Museums, re-enactments at Gamble Mansion, Historical Village and FL Railroad museums..

While checking for coming event dates  I found Point Pleasant Walking Tour in Old Downtown Bradenton. The tour starts with Carnegie Library, built in 1918.

Across the street from the library is this wonderful home, also built in 1918. Alan and Hazel Barker lived there until 1947. It is now divided into rental apartments.

Next door was this old beauty

Next to the yellow home, was this bed and breakfast

I followed the sidewalk in the brilliant sunshine, flowers blooming, 72 degrees
and turned the corner and found a 1950 duplex

Next to the duplex was a new home built to look old, but I could tell it was not.

I walked up and down a few blocks... and the next day went back with a friend... I promise not to show you all 400 photos....

That is so interesting seeing around your county. Nicer weather than many others of your countrymen have. The old buildings are lovely except the 50's duplex we have those too. looking forward to more.

400 you are worse than me! I enjoyed the glimpse you gave us of the neighbourhood, would have not been able to resist going inside the library.

The Bed and Breakfast looks like at my area down on Church street.
Back street over one Country road.

I enjoyed the rest of the pictures this morning.

Thanks for sharing.

What a fun way to spend some leisure time in such perfect weather!!

Beautiful homes/history here in your post [even the new home built to look old]

Aha!! Yes, finally another one that doesn't watch [or even get interested in] the Olympics.

i do like the quaint older places. at least the new home was meant to 'blend' rather than a mcmansion they build in quaint old streets here.

You found a lot of different architectural styles in a short distance. This must have been an interesting walk.

My husband would love to sit on one of those verandas. I think they are the things he misses the most from the South. I'm so looking forward to more of your wonderful photos.

I love the tour...I think the owners of these homes are very fortunate to live in such unique and homey homes.

I really liked taking this stroll with you, and would kindly ask for more. I love the mixture of old and new, and how everything harmonizes together. Lovely houses, I like the yellow one, next to the bed and breakfast.

Oh, I love these houses. Painted Ladies!

Isn't Point Pleasant supposed to have a haunted house or is that another Point Pleasant?

thanks for the walking tour. I love the look of the older homes.

P.S. I got to look through my files and see if I can find a picture of our library...it is a Carnegie Library and sure looks similar to this one.

Love the homes...old and new. And the fences...so pretty! And I think I told you before but we had a Carnegie Library in my hometown. It is used as a venue for events now.

The white picket fence with the flowers looks so welcoming.

Oh my gosh, that 50s duplex looks exactly like the yellow duplex I lived in when I was a single gal in Anchorage. The only difference is the covered entry way, that wouldn't last long with several feet of snow on top.

I love old houses like these. I really like the two story yellow house sitting back in the trees.

You said I would like these home and you are right! I like each one of them. The yellow one is so pretty and I would love to stay at the B and B with the fence and the roses. I see why you and Bob used to love this neighborhood. It does have character. I'm glad it was a beautiful day for you to go there and walk. thank you for taking us there..it is nice to see pics of Florida. I enjoyed this post a lot (I have not been on the computer...had a flare-up with Fibromyalgia and I was so tired.. Much better today.)

Well, it is Friday again. Have a nice weekend.
