Once Upon a mailbox....

Once upon a time, MadSnapper tired of the mail getting wet  in the box that was TWENTY FIVE years old.
She pondered
"do I buy the 7.99 box? the one like we have had for 25 years? or Do I buy the 25.99 box, that might just last the rest of my life?

I buy the 25.99 thinking I will never have to beg and plead for Bob to put it up again. this will be The Last Mail Box.

bought it... brought it... sat it... on the work bench
where it sat for
FIVE WEEKS and once again we had dry mail.

The tree man cometh
the bucket lifteth
the tree limb falleth.
Smack dab on the new mail box, busting the door off, losing all the hardware and breaking of the top 15 inches of the post.
The tree man boss says he will bring us a new post....

No Worries! the very next day Gilligan escaped from his island and dropped by and repaired the post and put the door back on with a wooden dowel....
his last words were, this is only temporary.

the thing is it's one week later and the boss man never brought the post.
he also never came back and cleaned up the neighbors yard.. but that is another story.

Ha! You tell the greatest stories! And I know all about those tree men. Sometimes they just let things fall where they may - not too good an idea. (I speak from experience).

Promises, promises! I hope you're not holding your breath. I do like your mailbox, though, so I hope SOMEONE will find a secure place for it.

A while back we got a new mailbox because some vandals came through late one night with a baseball bat and smashed every box on our road. Six weeks later the same thing happened. Another new mailbox. This one wasn't necessarily cheap in price but cheaply made, a metal box but with plastic hinges and clasp. The first small box that arrived from Amazon.com our mail carrier decided she was going to make it fit in box no matter what so she wouldn't have to spend an extra minute to run it down to our house and throw it on the porch. When I went to get it, it was jammed so tightly it wouldn't budge and she had broken the top clasp from the inside and I had to cut the box out with a knife. Thank goodness there was plenty of packing material. I talked to her about it and would you believe she did it two more times until I finally got somewhat ugly about it and told her to quit being such an idiot. I actually waited for her one day and made her get the box out! My cousin had to fashion a hook from an old piece of wire because the door no longer closed because it didn't have a hinge or a thingy to make it snap. Moral of the story. Don't spend a lot of money on mailboxes when you are at the mercy of vandals and idiot delivery people.

Oh my gosh! He probably just forgot all about it. Perhaps a little nudge. It needs it's post for sure, now you are leaving me hanging.I await your next post.

at least you have rigged it back together! :)

i bought a $75 mailbox - a really tough one that is supposed to withstand the little gremlins that like to bash them with bats (several occurrences, here) or throw bricks from a moving vehicle (yup, that happened the last time). however, it is so dang heavy that my puny metal post frame won't support it so it's been sitting in my storage closet for 3 years... and i've been pounding out the dents as best as i can on the cheaper one. :)

oops! That's a shame about the mailbox and the tree company not being responsible. Sorry for the trouble!

You've got me wondering if the boss man was that guy in the bucket that looked really grumpy about having his picture taken :)
I would be calling them every day bugging them until it was taken care of. That's pretty rude

Well, your tale of mailbox mishaps has me thinking I'll just live quietly with our old mailbox and leaning post without comment for a while longer. It does keep mail dry--so far.

Wow...sounds like I should send down the Pres! He got ours up the day we bought it. Then someone hit it avoiding a deer, and it was fixed the next day. He even put in the new family's for them!..:)JP

You got to love when all these promises are made to keep you happy at the moment, but they are never fulfilled.

My problem here is getting the mailperson to even close the mailbox like it's supposed to be. I've gone to get the mail countless times and it's wide open facing a busy highway. Oh yes, I've complained countless times, too. The last time I threatened to write a letter to the editor of our small town newspaper about the poor service and so far so good.

Life is never dull around your house, is it? I hope your nice mailbox soon gets a new post.

Dang.... Why do people work like that these days??? Seems like nobody completes their jobs.... Have you called them? I'd be driving them crazy to come back and FIX it....

Hugs,
Betsy

Well it's a good thing the mailman wasn't at the box when the limb fell. I would call them and complain. Even if you don't use it they should replace both the post and box. We are so lucky that we still have mail service to our front door.

What a shame. And I can tell you - I do not care for that "boss man".....I can not tolerate people who do not Keep their word! We had a really nice mailbox when we first moved here over twenty five years ago..."BANG" ( one night in the dark) about two months after Jim put it on a really nice post and all. Well, it is cheap mail boxes from then on, People think it is funny to baseball bat your mail box. Great post! I really enjoyed it!

Wow, that is terrible sweet Sandra. I am so sorry about the mail box and the tree boss man not repairing or at least replacing what was damaged. Hope your neighbors are not upset with you since the tree people did not clean up their yard. Reading this makes me appreciate our tree guys even more. They clean up every thing down to twigs and have never damaged anything. Hugs
