Taken on the morning AFTER...
The Queen Mother of All Lightning Storms
Not a drop of rain
It was NOT a dark and stormy night.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing
The dogs were sleeping
The humans were watching a movie on TV
SUDDENLY.. KA BAM! Ka Bam!
Baby ran for her condo in fear
Mama shuddered
Daddy did nothing...
UNTIL...
KA BAM! the windows rattled, the pictures shifted on the wall
AND THE POWER WENT OUT...
Daddy sat up to attention NO TV????
We have been through many storms, but never this much lightning right on
top of our house, the bolts were out the front, the back and the side
and the noise went on for about 40 minutes..
I found a video on YouTube which is much like ours.
NO! Mama did NOT take a video, she huddled on the sofa
and waited.
No damage done, no rain either. But we have already had our
4th of July Fireworks.
We sat in the semi dark with no electric, which means NO AC... it was 92 degrees (33 c) outside at 7:20 when the storm hit.. Lightning Loves Extreme Heat and boy do we have it...
Bob said: lets pretend we are back in the 50's... what did we do back then. Neither of us could remember.
he came up with riding bikes, I said hide and seek...none of which we did...
We went to bed MINUS AC....I said i know this is all in my mind, but I feel like I can't BREATHE.... he said...That's all in your HEAD... I said.. I just SAID that..
I kept saying... please don't hit a tree, please don't hit a tree... we have lost two and it cost thousands and we have SEVEN MORE...
Turn this up LOUD because this was LOUD LOUD LOUD

We had the storm but no thunder and lightening! There was a rumble or two but that's it. Then the wind kicked in and the rain came down and the electricity went off and we went to bed. Fortunately it was cool. I woke up at 4 a.m. in a well-lighted house since we left all the lights on when we went to bed.
Best,
Bonnie
Wow! So thankful you did not have any damage but I know the heat was horrid.
This is very strange. On that same day we had massive rainfalls and thunderstorms, followed my a mysteriously glowing sunset. I actually took some images, and I'm posting them today on my blog. Funny how the world works. Glad you stayed safe.

WHEN I WAS LITTLE AND STAYING AT MY GRANDMA'S SHE MADE ALL THE GRANDKIDS SIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR UNTIL THE STORMS WERE OVER.
I DO NO LIKE LIGHTNING AND THUNDER.
HUGS CECILIA
I like sleeping during a storm, as long as it isn't a scary storm. Great shots of the squirrel!
Not a good experience. Glad you and Bob are safe and hope the storm has now passed by your area.
I'm so glad no more trees were damaged! I don't like the thunder and lightening shows, but what scares me the most is the wind. Glad you & Bob are safe.
Scary, real scary. Isn't it amazing how much we depend on electricity. Here in the country our water is pumped from the well to the house. When the power is out, lack of water is a bigger hardship. (flushing) We now have the motherload of generators. Powers the whole place.
i HATE those close storms! i'd have had 4 huge dogs all huddled up against me as i sat on the floor, attempting to keep them calm - of course, they wouldn't be.
By your descriptions,I can almost feel the intensity of that storm. The only good thing about storms like that is that they usually don't last too long.Glad you were not hit by the lightening.
That is so scary! Especially when there is no rain, that makes it weird and more scary. How did you ever sleep...or maybe you didn't!
It's bad enough getting that kind of weather but it's worse when you have no electricity. Does mother nature not care that we need our electric gadgets. Glad there was no damage
Well we are getting them now...no damage yet...although trees are down on power lines, all is good here! Glad to made it...92 and no AC is rough!!!...:)JP
I hope you weren't without electricity too long, although no air-conditioning in those temperatures make any time without power too long. We were fortunate to avoid severe weather here in the Glade, and it's supposed to be cooler tomorrow.
Scary....we had a storm Monday night and had no electricity till six o'clock the next evening. Heavy winds and lightening that just kept flashing with barely a break in between...very odd... it was not as loud as yours. Thankfully. Glad you had no damage.
Oh, this reminds me of one time when Roger and I were coming home from Tennessee...before kids. Coming through Cincinnati, big old lightning bolts were hitting all around us. They were huge....how I wish I had had a camera back then. It was wonderful and scary all at the same time.
As you know I recently went through some of that unbelievable thunder and lightening so I feel for you sweet Sandra. It is not a fun thing to experience. I am so thankful you are all okay and you did not lose any more of your trees. We have lost some too and it is so sad to lose them. We are so happy that Baby Girl and Jake are okay too. Stay safe sweet friend. Hugs for you and nose kisses for the sweeties.
I hope your electric wasn't off for too long! I can't breath at night in my bedroom without my fan circulating air around and the noise of the fan! lol It all started when I was a kid! hahaha We haven't had a good lightening storm in awhile. Odd there was no rain with it. Glad no trees were harmed because you have some of the coolest trees in your yard like the avocado and the banana. I would hate for you to loose those! You have an orange tree too don't you? I would love to have fruit trees and yet we don't. We were going to get them but he don't want to mow around them now...
EW! Sorry your electricity went out but I'm glad you didn't lose any more trees!
We have lost power several times this summer already. It's such a pain, especially in the summer when it's hot!
I remember those southern lightning storms, more noise and flashes than any fireworks show. No AC in the heat would make me miserable too, I like it cool at night. I hope the electricity wasn't off too long.
When our electricity would go off when I was a kid I would grab a flashlight and read.
Oops! Forgot to mention how much I like your squirrel photos.
Ouch that sounds like a really bad thunder storm, hope your trees will be safe. Like the squirrel picture!!
Happy 4th of July!!!! We will be having American breakfast at the office this morning, yeah I work for an American company (tehee)
I, too, wonder what we did. After Katrina Hubby and I slept on our screened porch at night. I remember as a child I remember the constant rumble of our attic fan and turning my pillow over endlessly to the "cool" side.
glad yall were okay...but no fun with no A/C....
I'm glad all is well. That was really scary. I can't believe all the lighting in Florida. We didn't miss what we didn't know back in the 50's!
