Flag House

house in a box created in Photoscape

In June of this year, Brant Greer, a homeowner in a nearby neighborhood to us, found himself in a code enforcement box and painted him home as the American Flag in protest. He and his wife have 9 children, 7 are adopted  and also are foster parents.

The battle raged with the city for 2 months and The Guardian Angels of Florida jumped in to help the family, along with many neighbors and friends. On August 6th it ended. The city closed the case.

Blimey we had to check it out. Talk about the local council going way over the top. Goes to show there is nothing like common sense. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

I love it and would love to see it next door to me! I always knew Floridians were good people!

It looks very interesting. Love the wooden facade anyway. The white makes the other colors pop out nicely.

YAY a homeowner wins for a change. Around here big brother loves to push folks. Currently there is a battle about shop owners have an advertisement in their shop windows.
WHAT I say the sign is in their window..they pay rent for the shop!

What a great story abut a community coming together! Thanks for sharing. Oh, and I LOVED the picture of Jake you posted yesterday with the fern shadows. they looked so beautiful on his brindle fur!

I am pretty sure we saw this on tv. I am glad his community came together and supported him!

Everyone is so "politically correct". So glad he won and they dropped the case.
It seems those in high places are really trying to defuse patriotism at every turn.
Thanks for the comment on my blog post. I think we are in for a "cold snap" the rest of this week...it's going to get down into the 80's....pull out the parkas! (:0)

Wow I'm glad we don't live in a city like that. I'm also happy that the community rallied around them and the outcome was a positive one. I like the Flag painted house too.

I love the Liberty Bell house! Is it in Bradenton too? This man has so many children and was not supposed to have toys in the yard??? It is a good sign to see kids toys in the yard! The inspector who had accidentally forgotten his list had it in for the man from the beginning!! For some reason he did not like him and decided to pick on him!! He needs to be fired.

John was sr. code enf. officer for 19 years. It sounds like this officer said a lot of things he should not have. I guess there are ugly people in all walks of life.
I saw one of your comments that said businesses were not allowed signs in their windows....what most folks don't understand is that there are usually reasons for rules/codes. In the case of signs in windows...it obscures the view of police as they do their ride by well checks on the business owners. Folks always complained about John taking illegal signs on the right of way. What folks don't realize is how many people get killed because an illegal sign on a right of way blocks their view and they pull out in front of someone. The City Council makes the rules, the officer just enforces them BUT like I said, there are jerks and rude people in every job who try to throw their power around.
As for the red, white and blue...I would not want that next door to me. If the house were in a neighborhood with HOA, it would probably not be allowed due to the neighborhood rules.

That's a big way to make a statement! Regarding signs, I can't stand the people on the corners spinning signs! I haven't seen any in Cary, but they were everywhere in Orlando.

I love that story! Good for him, and good for the community to rally round. Great post. It is getting pretty ridiculous out there.

That house should be easy to locate.

Well, I'm all for people being able to do what they want with their own property as long as it hurts no one. Having just been through New Hampshire, we saw a lot of "live free or die."

Some pretty drastic measures on both sides. I hope he makes theirs issue a priority also but I commend him on his attempts.

I am flabbergasted...specially since he was in a family home and not where there was an HOA. I personally would not mind looking out my door, or window and seeing that.

Wow, what a story Sandra. So glad it had a happy ending. I love to hear how people rally around to help others, always very touching to read about when there is so much of the negative going on in the world. Hopefully the people at City Hall will not be as heavy handed in the future. We can live in hope.

Well good for him. I think it looks great and obviously from what I read there were a lot of people supporting him. It sounded to me like there was a city worker who was definitely overboard, maybe on a little power trip or something

Yay! You've got the watercolor pencil! Love it! I also like the box, too. I've experimented with the box effect, but I think the problem is the white background doesn't show them as well as your black does. Glad the guy won his battle! Good for him!

Hmmm. What were the politicians thinking to give such a good family a hard time?
