Garbage Guy In The Sky

We stand in our backyard every day and watch these Turkey Vultures circling and circling and circling, hardly ever moving their wings. Soaring in search of carrion, our Garbage Guy in the sky... we are thankful to have them in our neighborhood, they keep our streets clean.

They may not be pretty on the ground, but in the sky they are magnificent in flight. They are a protected bird and illegal to harm or hunt.**

Hope you enjoyed your anniversary!!!

I too love to watch their grace in flight. And, perhaps not the prettiest bird ever, but I think they get a bum wrap. Somebody's gotta love 'em.

They are quite magnificent flying.
Years ago I was taking a walk in the neighborhood. From some distance I saw what I thought was a dog in the middle of the road. As I got closer I realized it was a turkey vulture. Oh boy he was not much to look at but when he spread those wings for lift off he became gorgeous and what a wing span

I think they are beautiful. That wing spread is incredible. And like you, I appreciate them in Nature.

I see them soaring across the field all the time..usually just one, but every now and then I will see a gang of them..that's when I know something has died. We watch out for that here because of our animals.

I LOVE your valentine- it says it perfectly, doesn't it!

We call them buzzards here! I think turkey vulture sounds better!

I love your vulture shot! It is super duper clear, even though he is flying! I can even see his eyes! I always feel sad when I see a group circling because something has died. Love your Valentine! I will not even try because I am so bad at it.

Pretty card. We have turkey vultures too. Lots of them. When they all sit in one tree they are quite a sight.

Yes, those old vultures are pretty in the sky but last year about 10 of them got on top of our large willow tree out in the field. It was a eerie, scary sight. They spread their wings and sat there for about an hour or so. Reminded me of a frightful movie. I don't like the thoughts of them carrying off cats and small dogs that are pets. Okay, I have been negative enough. I'm sorry!

We call them buzzards. i have never noticed them in urban areas. i see them often in rural areas, either circling or on the roadside--or in the road-- chowing down.
