This is NOT a book review.

I just finished Death by Dark Horse, by Susan Schreyer, a free Kindle download from Amazon.
This  is what I would write if I could write..  I now am the proud owner of all the books in the Thea Campbell series... Amazon Got Me with the first one free and I bought the next 5 and I am glad...

I laugh at all the parts of the book that are so ME it is though Susan used my life for inspiration. Below is a quote that I snipped from the book.

NOTE: If I am home alone, I am not comfortable taking a shower..I keep waiting for the shower curtain scene. I only saw the movie once in 1960..

Question... why is it in all the suspense movies, the woman comes home to a dark house/apartment and walks around in the dark removing her clothes when we KNOW someone is waiting.
When I come home to a dark house the first thing I do is turn on every light in every room ...how about you?

I definitely turn on the lights as well. But then we wouldn't have suspense anymore... :)

And, they go down into the dark basement with no light!! Or, up into the dark attic with no light! I don't turn on the light when I walk into the house because they are already on!! I leave them on even if I'm going to out all day. The one thing I cannot do is sleep with a light on--not even a night light. It has to be perfectly dark.

Best,
Bonnie

I've never understood the shower scene fear that so many people had and still have over that Psycho book and movie. I read and then saw several times. Comparing that scene with all of the gory graphic murders shown today in movies and tv, that scene was comical. Never had the fear of showers. When it came out, my mother wouldn't let me see the show. So I read the book. I was about 14 or so. I don't think she knew that books were more graphic than movies. It never bothered me much.

Yes, it is me too. I turn on the lights and listen to the noises all night.. I wish I could sleep better, and not listen to all the house noises.. Have a happy weekend!

My husband and I commented on the exact same thing the other night when we were watching a program. Some gal came home - in the dark - and wandered around her house for several seconds before she turned on a light. Not us! We leave a light on when we're going out somewhere and know we're coming back in the dark.

I don't turn on all the lights - but I do turn on some and check around! Probably with a weapon in hand.

the dogs will let me know if something is wrong. I can't watch horror movies, it's hard to get out of my head.
happy Saturday! I'm going thrifting!

First of all, I want to know if you put on your newer red flannel night gown in the book 'scene'? Did you now....inquiring minds wanna know!!!

I don't go out at night so I don't come home to a dark house. When I get UP in a dark room, I leave it dark....and stumble around. Any noise I make will scare off all the gremlins.

That's what dogs are for. It's been so long since I didn't have at least one that I don't remember how I used to feel walking into a dark house.

We've been conditioned by all the movies.

YES! Many lights!! And here is another one. When a killer is loose in a big building or in the woods, why does the group ALWAYS split up?? "We can get this done faster if we split up!" they always say. In other words, they can get killed faster if they split up. So much easier to pick them off when there are less. I can't read or watch this anymore, I have nightmares. I DO like and watch detective shows and murder mysteries, but that is about it, nothing scarier.

WE never come home to a totally dark house...we always have this one fluorescent light on over the sink. Knock on wood, I never fear anything like that. If I hear something outside, I get the flashlight and go look. I don't turn it on till I am out there and looking and seeing what I can see by the streetlight/moon light etc. If I hear something in the night, I get up and go look...I tell Roger I would just ugly them to death if it was something/someone.

Lights all on, outside and in, curtains closed of course :)

I am definitely a light turner-onner. It bothers me in movies that they don't turn on the darn lights. And I know the movie you are talking about. It took me years to close my eyes in the shower. Thanks for the book tip.

If I come home to a dark house the first thing I'm going to do is let the dog out....lol I'm also going to turn on some lights.

I turn on the light above my chair and that's about it. I'm not the frightened type, but I got a chuckle out of your book quote.

Same here, Sandra, thought not every light. But, when we travel and stay in a hotel, I always leave at least one light on cause we usually always get back when it's dark.

I agree about the spooky movies. Why don't they turn on the lights? I don't worry about showering alone but sometimes I get spooked by the contraction noised in the house when it is cooling down at night.

Sandra, since I was a child I have never slept in a dark house. Every. I never will until they lay me to rest..oh God! Oh well..I won't think about it... Gotta read that book. I must go back and see if you posted the name of the book! I memory is as long as my little finger!!

yes, i turn some lights on, outside and in, i'm a little anxious about the dark, but it's the silence that bothers me...i have always been a sort of nervous sleeper, i guess.

I'm really not afraid here at all. We live kind of in the country ...no houses behind us and none across the street but our friends for over 40 years live kitty corner across the road so I know I would just call them. BUT when Jim is not home ...even during the day...and I get in the shower....it drives me crazy...because I am sure I heard somebody come in the back door!!!!!! I guess I am just crazy!!!!
