Re-Cycled Dreams Fashion Show

This poster appeared on the front page of our library website when I went to find a Kindle book to borrow... I attended it on Saturday. With about 300 other people

100 % Wal-Mart plastic bags, recycled grommets/ribbon

Teens from Jr. High and High-schools were challenged to create clothing using only recycled items. Above is last years winner and 2nd Runner up below.
plastic shopping bags and old beads

The talent was amazing. Hair and make up was done by Mary Kay volunteers and a local Hair dresser that I missed the name. The runway was lit and the 5 judges are professional artist/designers, with a DJ running the music.

Above creation the girls used paint sample chips for the bottom, the top is saran wrap and the rose was created by the girl on the right using melted plastic spoons

Above left, she used plastic garbage bag for top and the skirt is entirely made from coca cola cans.. the gores are the inside of the cans. The little girl is wearing a dress made from left over beads that were thrown from the Desoto Parade, she and the designer gathered them and glued together.

The dress above, she used only what she found in her fathers tool shed, the top is a plastic bucket, trash bags and old netting for the rest.

The wedding dress created from large white trash bags, and an old net dress..  there were 15 but my photo were poor quality so I gave up getting photos. After 2 hours I had to leave and at this time do not know the winner. will update when I find out.

this post reminded me of the outfit my Mum made me from Crepe Paper for the coronation in 1953, it was red, white and blue, very patriotic.

These are so creative. Although I can't say that I love the designs I do love the fact that they are made from recycled materials. These are some very talented young people.

How interesting; I've never seen anything like this locally. The designs are amazing and how fun for the girls to have their hair/makeup done.

Wow! These girls are really talented and have great vision. I just hope they don't get too close to a open flame with all that plastic on them!

Amazing talent here!! Can you imagine gluing beads together to make an entire ensemble? Wow.

Wow Wow Wow!!!! We are both huge fans of Project Runway. So we LOVE this!! We both looked and scrolled together. Don't care if you had a crappy camera, don't care about anything! At least we can SEE. And of course you know as soon as you send your good camera off, a big event like this happens. I love them all. And they are just as good, or better, than the pros on T.V. This is one of my very favorite posts of yours ever, if not my absolute favorite!! Favorite is the paint chip samples.

That is very cool. Some people sure are creative in planning these dresses and then making them.

Very creative the girls.

Thanks for sharing Sandra.

It is our Canadian Victoria Day holiday till Tuesday. Just slipped in to comment.

I agree with Tex. I too would be sweating buckets from plastic.

Have a good night Sandra.

this is so cool! My favorites are the paint samples, then the beads and then the black dress where the girl used her dad's bucket. I love this kind of creativity!
