The Arkansas Sunflower that Almost Wasn't

Do you see anything wrong with this pic? the size of the caterpillar 3/4 of an inch and the size of thin spaghetti

I complained to Bobby Appleseed that the sunflowers he planted for me, that Gail mailed to me 2 years ago, the ones that sat in the garage waiting to be planted,  were about to bloom but the leaves were disappearing every day. One whole plant, nothing left but a stem. I could find nothing.

( if you are thinking why didn't she plant them herself, the reason is I have a black thumb, any seed or plant I touch dies)

I had taken several photos of the buds and finally one partially opened and I snapped a few shots and

Screamed, Really I did, yell very loudly.. (because he never listens)

I TOLD YOU SOMETHING WAS EATING THE PLANTS.  He climbs out of the pool and says What? Where? holding out the camera I said What do you SEE???

The unlucky caterpillar is now demised and the one flower is open.. with two more on the way. Thank You Gail for the seed, but did you send that worm with them?

I like the title. And the sunflower is beautiful.

One of the worst things I ever had to do was remove a tomato hornworm from a plalnt. I swear it weighed at least a pound! I don't like those creepy crawlies either.

I am glad the sunflower was saved, it is so pretty. Poor caterpillar. It must have been hungry, eating all those leaves. Have a happy Tuesday!

pretty sunflower, well worth the two year wait! :) I have on sunflower that I've been taking pics of and hoping it will get a chance to bloom. I'm still crossing my fingers with your grandchildren! lol

glad they're blooming! i've had only limited success with seeds/sprouts sent from bloggers. i got some moss to grow from VA and some morning glories to grow (2nd attempt). but no clematis, no vitex trees, no rain tree sprouts, and one failed morning glory attempt (thanks to bunnies).

Beautiful shots! Bad worm.

If a seed can sprout that lay in a tomb for thousand of years why not a seed that sat in a Florida garage do the same?

I hope these have seeds so you can have more next year.

Well,I'k so glad you caught that worm before it took the whole plant. I have found many times, that when I take a picture,I find something I had not seen otherwise.Guess that's reason enough to keep on snapping. :)

Unbelievable how such a small creature can cause so much trouble. Isn't it Leonard the Lizard's job to help with the hunting of caterpillars? :)

The good news: Here's some flower seed. The bad news: It has a worm attached. Glad you got rid of that pest!

Well that sneaky little caterpillar. He blends right in with the stems. Glad you found him.
