Rocking Chair Memories

Way back in 1995, I left home for work and 4 doors down from our home, this chair sat in a driveway with a sign on it. $100.00. I drove past drooling and thinking, we can't afford that chair. We don't need that chair... When I came home 10 hours later.
There It Sat!  I loved it then, I love it now.
It has been devalued. 2 months after I bought it our dog Max (1986-2002) chewed the back of the rocker off.
It still rocks.
Max also ate a 20.00 bill, found a 20.00 bill, ate a 125.00 check my dad sent for my birthday and chewed the drawer pull off my antique dresser. The story of the birthday check is Here.

He chewed one heel off of five pairs of my dress shoes.

We miss you Max and every time I dust this chair I see the message you left for me.
To see Max, look up at at top of blog in the tabs and click on Max..

That is a gorgeous chair! Scratches and scars tell stories of our lives. I never knew cats were chewers until we adopted Madi. Madi lteethed on the finial of our grandfather clock. Her daddy came home one day to find her up there and so very proud of herself. I sure wish I had been here to see her look of victory!
Hugs Cecilia and madi

If you had not gone and got that chair, Sandra, you would not have had these memories to share so it's a great thing you changed your mind. And, now it reminds you of your precious Jake.

Lovely story about your chair. I still have the kitchen table with scratches on it from our beloved little dog now long gone. I look on each scratch and remember how much we still miss her.

I've read the story of Max, the miracle of the check and seen your beautiful rocker. All amazing stories and testaments to your and Bob's big heart.

Good morning, Sandra! It is a lovely rocking chair. I can not count all the things that our dogs chewed on over the years. Wood was their favorite item to chew on though. My hubby's hearing aid was another expensive item, our yellow lab Sunshine loved to chew. I hope you have a happy day and new week ahead!

I do love your rocker. Such memories but I'm glad it found a great home.
We have a child's rocker very similar to that one. It's really an antique we were able to have from my mother in law's estate.
I guess I will have to take a picture of it and use it when ABC Wednesday gets to the letter R.

The saying is. You never know how much you missed them till you see the vacant chair.

You have prove for sure. I am a dog lover. So I know how you feel.

My Ginger has been gone for many, many years but do I miss her.

Hi Sandra, I really love the rocker; it truly is a beautiful work of art. Ironic how it was still there and you ended up bringing it home and now the special memories it is a reminder of. I adore the letter from your dad and how he was led to share $125 with you - definitely led by the Lord. I clicked on the link to Max. Such precious photos. Pets remain in our hearts forever.

Nice-looking rocking chair - even if personally, I prefer my chairs to stand still! ;) My paternal grandmother had a dog named Max - he was a Swedish Vallhund (look it up if you want to know what it looks like). Once in my teens a pearl fell off my gold ring, and Max ate it... He was also in the habit of jumping up on people and ruined many a pair of stockings and pantyhoses...

That rocker is beautiful. A work of art. I was thinking ..not too seriously yet..of getting another puppy. Looking at them online..and off.
But your story and that of others on here have dumped a bit of cold water on my head and made me stop and think and I began to remember. Maybe not. I'm too old now and the puppy would probably out live me anyway...
By the time I got to the bottom of the post, I had come to my senses.

What a sweet surprise ... coming home to find that rocker!
'Somebody' sure loves you! :)

Truly, Sandra, Max's tale makes me feel better. I'd never owned a dog that chewed until we adopted the 'gruesome twosome' a couple years ago. TV trays, casements, baseboards -- even my mother's hope chest bear scars from Macie and Grace. If we didn't love them so much .....

That's a great looking chair with much history. Max sounds like quite the dog. We had one (Rebel) that enjoyed chewing things up but mainly if they were plastic.
