Flamingo Fun part 2 2009

Flamingos are hilarious to watch, busy clicking away I glanced at my camera case I had laid on the bench, and what to my wondering eyes did appear
one flamingo very busy unloading the paper from my bag. He/She pulled out each paper and dropped it on the ground. I regret I can't find the picture I took of the papers on the ground.
Flamingos are always great if you need a smile. Humor is their thing.
Flamingos like company and the more the merrier. Flamingos live in groups called colonies. They won’t nest unless there are other flamingos around. Both male and female flamingos mound up mud for a nest for their 1 egg and take turns incubating it. When chicks hatch, their down is gray or white

Twist-preen— The bird twists its neck back and appears to preen its feathers with its bill quickly.
During the day flamingos preen using their bills and spreading oil from a gland near the base of their tail through their feathers. They spend 15 to 30% of the day preening.

Standing on one leg is their most comfortable position.

Grown flamingos have few natural predators. Of course that does not rule out the unnatural predators, HUMANS.

They are so pretty. It's amazing how they can twist their necks. It's also amazing how those skinny legs can hold them up.

You live in a real beautiful area Sandra. My goodness for us to see Flamingos. One buys them artificial on a stick for peoples lawns for special occasions like Birthdays or someone who has just had a baby.

We seen our real ones as a family in Florida. Disney land for us.

Wow they are so beautiful. And people can feed them. That would be cool.

Thanks for showing them.

We have a beautiful weekend here. People who like to wear shorts. It is the weather. Teens are riding bikes and doing there things they enjoy.

I see the seagles got to our beach first. Our lakes have just loss the ice and snow. Now open water but for sure cold not for swimming yet.

What an interesting post about these beautiful birds, Sandra. I've only ever experienced flamingos in the wild and didn't know they could be so tame. All the other characteristics match with what I've seen and enjoyed. Thanks for sharing and THANK you for your kind comment about "me" being restored to my readers. Sweet of you. Jo
