Sunday morning at 10 AM, Bob was walking Jake around the block, I was walking laps around the pool and under the power lines and I heard ZZZZZYT ZZZZZT over my head. I knew what it would be. Hustled to the other side of the yard and there it was. The neighbors 50 foot bamboo had fallen on the power line. this happens often, but usually it just fries the tip. This one was to big and did not burn through but hung down 10 feet to the ground wire causing both places it touched to flame and smoke.
I ran inside while

I called the "power line down number" for our electric company and they sent a cute young guy to cut the thing off the lines. I totally forgot to take the cute guy's photo with the extension pole. Because
while he was STANDING on the ground HOLDING the pole and cutting the flaming bush I stood inside ready to call 911 to save him and the idiot husband who was standing next to him..

While the cute guy was cutting the flames got higher and he ran around the house and out to the truck and back and I thought he went for HELP...
He came back and put a claw on the end of the pole saw and grabbed the flaming thing and threw it on the ground..
I was REALLY weak from Adrenalin Rush, but I did manage a few photos...
Later inside, I said to Bob as soon as my adrenalin calms down I will finish putting our pills in the weekly dividers.
He said WHAT Adrenalin rush? from WHAT? This from the man who said
don't call anyone, it will burn itself down.
And I said and burn through the wires dropping them in the POOL or ON your head..
Can you say Mars and Venus????

men! :) a different species at times!
You know I can so identify with the whole Mars/Venus thing. LOL. But OMG! What if those flames had sparked a fire in the rest of the bamboo? I'm glad you were cautious.
By the way, I love your banner pic! :)
CRAZY!!! We have a power pole in our back yard just beyond our beloved gazebo and it is leaning at a precarious angle!!! What to do??? Apparently nothing!!UNTIL it falls.......
Thankfully nothing happened to the worker while he was cutting down the pole. But the fire would have freaked me out. :) lol at Bob for suggesting that it will burn itself down :)

Yikes, what a scare. Is that even allowed, having things grow so close to a power line??
I'm surprised they electric company doesn't make them cut that back. Here they go around from time to time and cut back branches from tree. The last time they went up our street they really hacked up some of the trees. They looked horrible in my opinion but nothing you can do about it
Hello, the Mars/Venus thing happens here too. Men in general like to take more risks than women. But, I wonder was the adrenalin rush from watching the power lines or the cute guy.
Have a happy day and week ahead!
Look at the bright side! At least you don't have to leave home for your entertainment.
Best,
Bonnie
Laughing and shaking my head! Not fair that WE don't get to see the cute young man!
I'll just comment with one word- MEN! I'm with Mildred- you should have gotten a pic of the cute guy that came to save the day! LOL!
Oh my word...that was just plain scary. Some neighbor needs to get rid of his tall bamboo tree. Sounds like it is a real hazard. Thank goodness MS was there with phone in hand ready to punch 911 to save cute guy and oh yeah...hubby. That was funny. did you lose power?
We are late coming we left home at 7am, ate a quick breakfast, walked an hour then went shopping for light fixtures for the bathroom reno. We still have to find one for the foyer and front porch.
Got home at Noon
Hugs Cecilia
Isn't your neighbor supposed to prune his trees? Or is it the one with the kids climbing all over the place? In that case I guess it's useless to hope for some neighborly consideration. I love the way you described this scary experience, I felt like I was there, about to get toasted too.
You are hilarious! Goodness, the power line companies around here won't let anything get within 40 feet of their lines or they cut it down...The leave some awful ugliness behind. And still we lose power so what difference does it make?
OH MY! I am laughing so hard that tears are running down my face! This is one reason I check you first thing when I get up. You are hilarious and must be so much fun to live with. I will be thinking about this the rest of the week. And you are SO right about women and men! I hope in your adrenaline rush you did not get all the pills mixed up! Those neighbors need to get rid of that bamboo!
Phil has now laughed so hard he can hardly put his socks on.
That is so men and women! Funny but scary too! We know not to fool around with power lines....like let it burn itself out lol
I'm going to say it...Bob was right. I will also add you were right, too. You do good work but next time, you with the camera! better be taking action shots for those of us that see little action nowadays.
There is never a dull moment in your neck of the woods.
All we get is a "on something" guy ,
who lives on the next street,
wanting to jump our backyard fence
and the police wandering around
with their flashlights in our backyard
trying to see if he is there...at 11PM.
Mission accomplished...no guy...
just me feeling uneasy in our oh so safe and quiet neighborhood.
I am frustrated to not hear the end of the story though.
Hope it doesn't happen again!
Mars and Venus, that is so true :) Quite an exciting event and one you don't want repeated. My sister-in-law's house had a fire because of a downed electric line. A large tree branch fell and that's all it took. She had to get the fire service out. Not too much damage, enough, but it could have been so much worse. Glad you guys were okay.
I can definitely say Venus and Mars or Cat and Dog....but I am laughing after reading this. thank you very much...I needed that.
It probably didn't seem as funny when it was happening, Sandra, but your retelling was rather hilarious. Drat, I was also looking for the cute utility guy photo!
Oh my, I would have had that same rush! Glad no one was hurt and they were able to fix the issues quickly for you.
Never a dull moment where you live. I think that would be a bit scary for sure.
I never thought about bamboo bending/breaking and falling over power lines. It sounds like you've seen this before. I'm trying to figure out if your adrenaline rush was from the cute young fella, or the fact the bamboo was on fire! ;)
