Our Environment Matters

Paper straws on Amazon

My prior post, stated if you use a straw, you can drink more water. Please if you use straws, buy paper straws that are biodegradable. We need to be aware of what we do every day that we don't know we do it.... we all need to be more aware and buy biodegradable when we can.

My friend KBbear at Romping and Rolling in the Rockies, reminded me  , via comment that Straws are really bad for our environment. THANK YOU.... I answered her comment with I wonder if they still make paper straws. THEY DO.. and they are at Amazon and other places.

NOTE: for a feel good moment visit her post at link above. The Planet we need to protect is visible on her blog every day.

This LINK will take you to horror stories of what plastic straws can do to animals, birds and fish. I HAD NO IDEA..

One Green Planet tells us ... EACH DAY HUMANS PRODUCE AND UTILIZE 500,000,000 STRAWS.  click the link for details.
500 million straws a day... if that seems to high in number, think of every fast food place, gas stations and convenience store that a straw comes with every drink. Plus mothers putting juice with straws in lunch boxes...

I see each & every time I'm out walking...the trash/plastic DeVos is phenomenally atrocious. And it's not always plastic...for instance, 1000s of cigarette butts...ugly, and harms the water & vegetation for wildlife. I could go on & on....

sorry. auto correct changed the word debris to DeVos

We have sadly turned in to a disposable world where everything is thrown out instead of fixed. Of course, you can't really fix a straw but you are right, there are paper ones that can be easily found. They also make some of a sturdy plastic that can be washed and reused

Thx for the reminder. Paper straws are so snazzy looking these days!

Ties in beautifully with my recent mini-series on plastics... and I think I overlooked mentioning that the upsurge of interest here in the UK actually began with a television rant about plastic straws - it included Gordon Ramsay who was held to task and is now in process of changing his restaurant usage! Every single one of us can do something - then the commercial types start to take notice... Great post Sandra!!! YAM xx

Hello, we do have a lot of plastic waste. The paper straws should be offered instead of plastic in restaurants. I think we can all start doing more to make our environment greener. Thanks for sharing, great post. Have a happy day!

You prompted me to add 'no straw' to my order and carry a supply of paper ones for drive through. Sounds like a perfect use for Amazon points today.
( I hear you. Why are you eating drive-thru? ;) )

Yep we saw something recently on the TVees about straws etc.
I agree with Anni about cigarette butts. Such trashy people leaving their mark everywhere. Not to mention just being all around litter bugs

Okay this is so funny - went to the Dollar Tree yesterday and they have beautiful paper straws - like 15 in a bag - for a Dollar! I bought 3!

Good grief ... that's something I never considered! Tom goes through plastic straws like crazy, so I'm going to show this to him. I've a BIG plastic red and white straw (for my mason jar sippy cup), but its washable/reusable.

The cups I use have straws with them. However I own metal straws that can be washed a reused over and over again. I bought them on Amazon. I get very angry with people who don't care about our environment.
