Above the store, Bookworms are condos where people live.
below is MacAlisters on the streets at Lakewood Ranch, where yesterdays potted plants were found, way back in 2009. No idea what it looks like now.

Above and below are Condos that are above the restaurants and stores.
The rest of the photos are from a neighborhood here in Bradenton. I just love the windows and doors.

Some neat 'facings' tgere!!! YAM xx
I love the tall fancy clock! I bet these apartments over the shops are more expensive than a stand alone apartment. But that would be so cool! Just think, you would have a new book smell through your air vents!! Is it called Little Bookworms because they mainly sell children's books?
When I was younger, I always thought it would be fun to live above a shop. A few of our little downtown businesses have apts. above them.
My first thought on the condos above the bookstore was "I bet those are expensive". MacAlsiters looks like a nice place. Since the awning says soak up the spirit of the Scots I'm assuming it's a bar?
These are all very beautiful. I would like to have a deck/porch on my upstairs apartment.
I'm thinking the noise level would be high? Maybe not. I do like the 'comfy, home look' to them tho!
What beautiful architecture and colors. Raleigh too has embraced the multipurpose living structures. The architect/developer who made it a reality was one of the first to buy a condo above.....a multipurpose bldg. That was yet unoccupied. Lo and behold cafes, bars and restaurants moved in below him.
Evidently it the noise level was not conducive to sleeping etc. He had to move out. I guess if you're gonna live in one of those buildings you need to be sure you are way up on the tippy top floor.

I want a little bookworm! ... with a comfy window seat and one-way glass. :)))
Actually, I'd be happy to lay my head at either #2813 or #117.
We pass a nearby McAlister's Deli every now and then; have you eaten there?
I like the condos above the shops. There is a neighborhood not far from here where I go to the show. They have shops, a Trader Joe's, restaurants and the theater. Around this area are a lot of apartment buildings. Sometimes I think I would love to live there so I can just go out the door and walk to everything.
It sure looks like a charming place. It's a nice treatment for condos.
Have a great weekend.
Good news, down another pound!
Tomorrow we are going to the Cheesecake Factory for DIL's birthday..oh my...think the "Skinny taco salad" will be my choice.
I know you have a lot of interesting and beautiful house pictures in your archives. You can post them anytime as far as I am concerned. Always pretty.
It is so interesting to look back at old photos.Even the ones that may not have a name or location, still are interesting.I love some of those windows and doors as well.
i love those windows and doors. i especially like that white front entrance with the potted red plant; so charming!
thanks for sharing these beautiful old photos with us.
That must be the new "in" thing. There were a couple of new malls built in Austin, TX before we left that had apartments over the stores....I would think it would be too noisy of a place to live.
They do look very neat and clean... We have quite a few developments like that with residential apartments above shops...
