Ranting on Sunday???

Is it ok to rant on Sunday???  Some of you remember this past week I talked about my Timeshare Bathing suit and the lizard and frogs that live in it.
The only mention I have ever made was the post about my bathing suit. I have never been to a website to leave cookies......

SOOOOO why am I being bombarded by Timeshare Ads in my email? They started 2 days after the post.

Rant 2. I own a TracFone cell phone for emergency use only, like when our cable TV/phone/internet goes out. I carry it with me in the car for calling tow trucks and people to fix flat tires.

I have never put it online, it is not on Google, I just don't use it. There are NINE people who have my number, they all know they can text during daylight hours only but if they want me call the house phone. YES, I said house phone.

Occasionally I get a wrong number, or I assume they are wrong,  because I don't answer if it is not one of the NINE.

So why now am I getting ADS in my text?

the one today said  Put sticker wraps on your bumper and get a chance to win $500.00, reply to get details...

Where did they get my number? Did one of my sons, one of my DIL's give it to them? Did one of the 5 friends that can text me give it to them? Are the NINE guilty of selling my number? What think YE?

It wasn't me I swear. Oh wait, it's Sunday, it's not nice to swear on Sunday. Seriously though, I would like to know how they get the numbers too. We have a landline phone that came as part of our cable bundle. We don't use the phone and have not given the number to anyone yet calls come in on that phone. I never answer them.

As far as getting e-mails, lots of possible guilty parties there but the phone? No clue. So annoying.

Hello Sandra,

I think these companies have computers call numbers at random. There seems to be so much tracking going on. We do not have the land line any more, just our cell phones. Enjoy your Sunday!

It's crazy how they get our info.

Rant on MS!! We rarely get a call on our landline that IS NOT a solicitor of some sort. Now the idiots have resorted to somehow calling from the area code and first 3 digits of our phone number which makes one think it is someone you know. However, thanks to our new 'smart' land line. It can identify the 'fake' numbers. Invalid number comes up on the small screen. And thankfully this land line has a 'quiet' button which we use at night BECAUSE we were getting calls during the wee hours from crazy area codes like 146.....
Anyway you press the quiet button, enter how many hours you want it not to ring then hit menu. That is it no night time ringing!!
Oh my word now I am ranting.
Hugs Cecilia

Your phone and computer keeps up with what you write about. I understand that once someone had the phone open and mentioned dog food and then they started getting messages about that. Kind of scary isn't it? I can look something up on the laptop and then the next thing I know it is in my feed on fb. So....word of warning, don't be searching things you don't want the world to know about! haha

In today's world it is almost scary how information gets out.

No clue how they do what they do! I have a iPad and I started getting these Hometalk messages on my Facebook messenger. And I don’t know how to stop them! The one thing I know is that there is NO privacy left in this world!

Sandra, I read your rant and the follow-up comments and don't have a clue about HOW solicitors get hold of a cell number. We used to get so many of these calls when we had the VA cell phone numbers. And, we also never gave out our number and always listed friends and contacts so we would know who was calling, if we didn't recognize the number, we blocked it. After the VA house sold, we changed to a NH cell number and while we've still had some of these calls, it's no where near the number or frequency. (Maybe it's because it's a new number now.)

You can always register your home and cell number with the national do not call registry, which we did in the past, but it didn't seem to make any difference. And, I read that I you get a sales call after your number has been on the list for 31 days, you can file a complaint at www.donotcall.gov, or call 1-888-382-1222; it's toll-free.

As for the unsolicited emails, no clue, but we've received them as well. It may be that online activity is tracked and targeted?

Seriously I think people in the technology business, know their business and can tap into our info. It's just the day and age we live in, there is no privacy anymore. When I receive a call and don't recognize the number, I never answer it. If it's important enough they will leave a message. if they don't, I never call back. Our landline, which we have as part of our cable bundle also receives lots of call but we never answer them either. My email must be pretty protected, I very seldom get unsolicited mail.

Hang in there!!

I wouldn't be surprised if nowadays the walls aren't listening … geezle peezle! I don't think there's such a thing as privacy any more.

Tom FINALLY agreed to get rid of our land-line, but the solicitors still ring our cell phones … that "Do Not Call" list is a bunch of baloney.

Weird.

You know your phone can pick up your conversations even when it is off? They use it for ads. Same with things you write, post, or look up online.

I asked my hubs about this. Some calls are just computer generated and they dial one number after another. Are you getting the same one repeatedly?

I bet that they are randomly trying phone numbers... and that's why you're getting those calls. Can you add your cell number to the no-call list? That helped me.

As for those ads for timeshares, that's upsetting...

Because they know everything. Everyone is watching everything we do. That really sucks about the ads. I doubt anyone gave them your number. Have you noticed all the junk ads in your gmail account. I am reporting SPAM everyday now to Google.
