Construction Part 1

For the last year, we have driven through detours, and around flag persons.. Our Direct route to the YMCA and Walmart, has been a challenge. We pondered each time what was taking so long, and what they were doing.  We found out the day they put a giant 6 ft X 6 ft sign a few houses down from our house.

Construction will continue to be in our life for Another 390 days, or so the sign says. The city is replacing ALL the sewer lines in our subdivision... The sign went up on January 1, which explained why our taxes went up 100.00. The cost of the project 1.9 Million Dollars.

We watched for a few weeks as first one road and then another closed, more signs went up, we had more detours, nothing on our street, but the ones around us. They planted 5 different colored flags, 3 colors of PVC pipes in and on our property. our turn came on Feb 6, see photos below.

These guys are so NICE, it is a total shock that every single worker, including flag people are very pleasant to us. Whem I needed to back out, they moved the hose, when Bob came home, they moved it for him.  They JUMPED right to it immediately.

In most work areas I see there are more guys standing around doing nothing than there are actual workers.
Glad these guys are friendly and polite

I can honestly say that it's the same here...way more kindness & respect from them than ANY where else we've lived. I attribute this behavior to Southern Charm!!

Hello,

I am sure the work will not be convenient. But it needs to be done. It is great that the workers are all so nice. Enjoy your day!

Lots of days but lots of pipe to replace I am sure. Makes things better when you encounter them that they are nice. Oh....I tell you Sandra, Lily has made my days lately have some laughter in it. She is a mess.

This is so cool! A sewer worker would have every right to be cranky! Can you even think of a worse job? And in the heat of Florida. Wonder how long they will be in front of your house before they move to the next block.

Now the inconvenience is a royal PITT but at least over the long haul you know the workers are nice....thoughtful. That is a very long project.
BUT I bet it will be full of post potentials.

Oooooh, what a PAIN! I recall when the City of Phoenix was doing a like-kind project right in the path of my daily commute. Wow. Gotta give major props to whomever hired those nice workers! Attitudes like theirs sure take the sting out of being inconvenienced.

Maybe not quite so bad for you with the weather mostly fine but over here that would be a nightmare with all the mud when it rains.
What a long time to put up with the mess though.

It sure makes a difference when workers are considerate like that! I hope things go well...and faster than they expect. Thank you SO much for supporting me this past week with my blogger woes! What a sweet friend you are! Blog buddies have to stick together! Sweet hugs, Diane

Wow a whole year is a long time to be inconvenienced.
Glad they are nice and new sewer pipes will be good for the future.
A raise in taxes is always hard though.
It will be fun to see your progress thru your camera.

It is probably a good thing they are nice - after two years of working in the same place - the neighbors might go postal!

I guess this is the kind of thing that needs to be done from time to time.Good to hear that at least they are kind and accommodating as much as possible.

It must be annoying to have so much construction...but at least the workers seem to recognize this and are being super nice!

I feel for you having to deal with that...but always feel most working guys like that are the good guys! Nice to not be disappointed.

That's a huge project! It will be nice when it's all done but that won't be happening anytime soon.
