Trash Talk on Nature Friday

I took these photos after a thunderstorm came through putting down 8 inches of rain while winds hit 55 MPH.... This kind of trash is picked up by our city/county.

I understand Natures Litter, but do not understand Human's littering.

The USA generates more trash than any other country in the world. We need to be aware of what we are doing.

I found this chart in an article from Los Angeles Times if you don't want to read the article, take a peek at what we are doing to our environment by looking at the photos.

Awareness Alert! Recycle, Re-Use, Up-Cycle

You know I'm a huge advocate for keeping one's "footprint" upon the earth to a minimum. Loved this post!!! YAM xx

When you see the numbers it's staggering how much trash we produce. I had no idea how long it took some of those things to decompose.

Hello,

Hubby and I do out best to keep trash down and recycle. Hubby goes along our street and picks up trash that people throw out of their cars. Great post , thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day!

If only more folks would be mindful and recycle and not litter, trash might be reduced. Outpr apt is across from the trash disposal room on our floor and we can hear bottles going down the shoot on a constant basis. There is a green (recycle) room here but a misuse of incorrect items placed there no matter what instructions are provided. Sadly, there is no excuse for this.

I don't know how much plastic the poor Earth can hold. Good post, great informative chart! I also believe that yes, garbage is a by-product of a large population, but not over-population. But we *are* supposed to be good stewards of God's beautiful Earth, not users and abusers.

It's a shame, I know. Here, it's mostly grass clippings & trash on our streets. Thing is...our city claims it's from the property owners ... when in reality it's 90% the city! (The city's trash trucks pick up trash in big trucks & it blows out from one house to another. Then the city mows & then they blow the grass in the streets, clogging the drainage system.)

You must have heard my ranting this am. We walked around the mall deck today.
I continued to be disgusted by human's littering. Some one obviously ate their meal in their car. The dumped everything out the window. There was a trash can 3' from their car.

Stupid litter bugs...wonder what their home looks like
Hugs Cecilia

I saw a show on this awhile back, it is so bad. But invisible to most, so no one thinks about it. so sad seeing those people who have to go and pick through it, it's a wonder they don't get awful diseases.

That world map is pretty sobering ... what an embarrassment! Normally the park where I walk is kept pristine, but even days after last Saturday's Mardi Gras festival there were empty food containers and other 'yuck' in the bushes. Sorry, but some people are inconsiderate pigs.

I call those people "pigs" too. I often wonder what their homes look like.
We recycle all our glass and plastic, and green waste.Interesting statistic that sanitary napkins take 500-800 years.
I wonder if they mean disposable diapers?
Got your message this morning...

Yes we're in this together!

I don't get people and the trash they leave everywhere either! I feel really bad because where my dad and sister live they do not recycle. When I'm there I bring things to my niece to recycle.

I am always talking about how much garbage we reproduce in comparison to when I was home. But then, we canned our own fruit and vegies, thus, the only thing to throw away was the little dome lid that seals. And for freezing, we did buy some freezer bags, but mom also saved bread bags, and any other type of plastic bag that was suitable...she would rinse it and hang it on the line to drain dry.

Here, in our town there is no recycle bins, or I would. We had a place that was letting people put their aluminum and paper and plastics, then people just started dumping trash there so they put a stop to it all.

I get very upset at what humans leave behind.I see so much of it in the bus as well. Every conceivable kind of garbage is left behind.

I agree Sandra - this is a huge problem for us - I do wish people would be a little more conscience of what is going on around them and care just a bit more. sandie

Trying very hard to be responsible. I recently bought reusable mesh vegetable bags so I don’t use plastic bags any more. I have already been using reusable shopping bags. Takes my mind back to the string bags my mother used to take with her when I was a kid. I won’t buy any plastic bottles of water any more. Times you can’t help it but I am trying to do my small part. Great info here Sandra. Thank you!

I hate thecwaste too but just buying berries these generates a plastic tub. Cardboard containers have slowly vanished. And big companies are to lazy to ask us to send then their empty container like soap for laundry or soda can to coda companies. It is very sad,
