Nostalgia or not?

Nostalgia...
a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations

Above is an electric ice cream churn. The name on the box is Nostalgia.
The word ice cream maker on the front is not nostalgic to me.

Ours that we used on every 4th of July, was hand cranked. And cranked, and cranked and cranked. But worth it. Ah, my mothers homemade peach, or banana or vanilla ice cream. Now that is Nostalgia.
The other thing that is not nostalgic, is the fact I did not SEE until this came up on the screen, is it is not written in English but Spanish.
Another thought is... why are the words ice cream maker in English?

The big jars with spigots are not nostalgia to me, but the pint and quart sized canning jars that looked like this bring back memories of  shelf after shelf of mothers canned goods.

Yet another thing not from my past, is the fact it is now NECESSARY to put a sticker on the front that says GLASS. Really? who knew?

And I am not sure why they have a Cow on and arrow..
It is cute though.
All this to say, I did flip back in time when I wandered through all this, and remember fondly things from my childhood.

I knew nothing about ice cream makers, hand cranked or electric, until I moved to the states. I have an electric one I bought and it’s never been out of the box. Maybe this summer.

We did not have an electric ice-cream maker either. It was hand cranked like yours. You could work up quite an appetite that way. So WM was selling this Spanish magazine?

The glass sticker made me laugh. They think we are all numb skulls now adays and need to be told what to do, they should have lived a few years back when we all had to make our own minds up about things, (how did we do that I wonder, DER)

The cow, I believe, is a weathervane (for wind direction). Never seen a hanging one before, but it should work the same way as a rotary-mounted one... then again, where's the NESW part? Oh well, I tried! YAM xx

I vaguely remember having an ice cream maker but I don't recall ever making any. Ice cream sounds pretty good right now though. I need to get my mind off food.

Hello

We never made ice cream, maybe snowballs. I like the cute cow. That big jar would be nice for ice tea. Stay cool and have a happy day!

I do love the big jars with spigots and the cow is adorable. I've never had hand homemade ice cream.

Yep a lot nostalgia...of sitting by that slow machine WAITING...
The jars remind me of the suntea jars that were so public many years ago.
Add water and tea bags sit in the sun perfect tea w/o any electricity.

Yep everything in this house has a Madi memory. 7 1/2 lbs filled every sq inch. Thankfully I smile at the memories too. She had a good life and enjoyed every second.

Hello Sandra, I've never owned an ice-cream maker. I love the glass jar with spigot, though; Thanks for your concern while I was "absent" I intend to be back regularly now. Have a great weekend. Jo

I need to pay more attention in Walmart...I seldom think about taking a photo in there. Me, too, on canning jars. I always helped mom can, and I loved doing it. And sometimes, though very, very seldom, I was left in charge of the pressure canner. And the one and a half years I lived down there, I canned a WHOLE LOT....

"Glass"? Good Lawdy, save us from ourselves!
Methinks you were a privileged child in those things that count. I never had home-made ice cream until my 30's (unimpressed), and no-one I knew canned anything.
The only thing that comes to mind when you mention nostalgia is the smell of a cow/horse barn. Some of my happiest moments spent at my grandparent's farm in Minnesota.

I absolutely love homemade ice cream.
We always had a big shindig at our house on 4th of July. We were all couples with young kids and got together to have the best potlucks and of course making ice cream was part of the tradition.
It would be ready after fireworks which the Dads did with the kiddos in our cul de sac...great place to do them.
The trouble was July in the San Francisco Bay Area usually meant fog and drizzle...kids had fun anyway.
We all gained a few pounds from the goodies and ice cream.

I remember the hand crank one too. It was hard work, but so good.
I was thinking that the word nostalgia is the same in Spanish and English - I looked it up.

I don't think I've ever seen an ice cream maker... What excited me most about this post was the fact that I can read and basically understand the Spanish text, though! (thanks to three years of Duolingo Spanish) ;)

We had a crank ice-cream maker when I was a child. So many memories of ice-cream parties with family and friends. Now I have a small electric one, making just enough for a maximum of four servings at a time.
