We received this email this week from the FAA because Bob operates planes and drones and we live in a No Fly Zone for 5 Airports and an Air Force Base. He has to register his flying machines and post his number on each plane/drone
We receive emails when he is not allowed to fly.
Operating a drone that has a dangerous weapon attached to it is a violation of Section 363 of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act enacted Oct. 5, 2018. Operators are subject to civil penalties up to $25,000 for each violation, unless the operator has received specific authorization from the Administrator of the FAA to conduct the operation. “Dangerous Weapon” means any item that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury.
This photo was at the end... First thought was who would do this? 2nd thought is are we idiots? Who would NOT KNOW it is against the law to attach a weapon to a drone.
Bob's first words after I read this to him and showed him the photo, was, Oh I have seen this done, and I know how to do it and could if I wanted to... OMW at least he closed with why would I and Who would do this?
consider yourself warned people! It is Against The Law to Weaponize a Drone...
I just remembered a scene from a Bruce Willis movie with a machine gun shooting in the windows of a high rise. I assume they had previous authorization! Also, I am pretty sure there was one in a Jason Bourne movie...

My goodness, I knew I didn't like drones for a reason... for me it was more about the sneaky cameras many have now. Sadly, the genie's out the bottle on that one. Good to send out the word on spam, too. YAM xx
Glad you're okay. My sister has used feedly & had to update her account often. Still, it didn't show new blogs. She finally installed a new rss feed app.
Anyway ... thanks for the heads up on spam. And about weapons on drones. We've seen them being used at birding sites but they put 'a stop' to that 'cause of too much trauma for birds.
It's kind of sad that they need to state the obvious for some people. Then again someone who is crazy enough to attach a weapon to a drone isn't likely to listen to the warning in the letter.
I've gotten those emails from banks I don't do business with. I haven't gotten the spectrum one though. I find it odd that they give you a link to follow even though they say that your online access is blocked. If it's blocked then the link shouldn't work.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who will fall for these scams
I guess they send the letters as a way of having more leverage in legal actions against offenders.
I get so sick of all the scams....
Hello,
Thanks for the heads up, spam has gotten out of hand. I agree with Ann above, anyone who puts a weapon on a drone will not pay attention to the warning.
Online banking just scares me, too much hacking going on lately.
We must always be on alert. Wishing you a great day!
It is a shame there are imbeciles out in the world, with capabilities to do such mean things. They are the one who suck the life out of things normal folks enjoy we have become their victims. Currently our biggest spam problem is the phone. I cannot believe all the calls we get latest # appeared on our phone was 000-000-0000. Who would answer a call with that kinda of number?
Hugs Cecilia
It's interesting to hear about drones from your perspective over in the U.S. We had a flying drone that shut down our major capital airport earlier in the year. The mystery drone could not be traced are disabled. I don't answer the phone. There are few people that call us that way so I know that if the phone rings it's going to be a cold caller trying to sell something. Here nuisance calls can be reported and blocked. Likewise I don't open strange-looking emails, although usually they go into the spam box.
Great advice! Awful that there are so many scammers out there. A real big one is "you need to re-do your billing info". The drone thing is funny and sad at the same time! I wonder how good a drone's aim is? A delightful, though serious post today!
Maybe if these brilliant hackers could stop hacking and use their brains for something good - they could discover cures for cancer or something.
I will have to show Rick the airplane notice.
I don't think WE are the idiots!!! Good grief!! It's scary the people who are in charge of ANYTHING these days!
I was awaken this morning by a robo-call. Blocked it but by then I was wide awake !!
I hate all the spam stuff on the phone and internet.
Its so sad and maddening that there are people who want what I have and will do anything to get it..
The magic word "free" with no work on their part.
I do not like drones. I know if we are out in public that we are "seen". But twice now I have been at an outside affair (a graduation and a fourth of July celebration) , looked up and saw a drone. It made me angry both times....sort of like, don't take my picture, but also, get out of my personal space! I guess I'm old fashioned, but geez Louise.
Imagining the horror of a drone with an armed weapon just plain scares me to death.
I could hardly wait until we returned from the VA to show this to Tom. Even before drones became wildly popular, they (his flying club) had issues with the jet flyers and IMAC guys willfully exceeding the 400' ceiling. Because their flying field was scary-close to the Glendale Airport, he and a couple other 'old-timers' were predicting the FAA would revoke their license.
So sad that it takes only one or two fools who thinks the law doesn't apply to them. What's going to happen if they wind up being the cause of a (real) plane crash.
We have received similar false email alerts, too. With the prevalence of email we rarely receive fake alerts by phone. the exception is a fake alert that our social security account has been compromised and used in some illegal way. if we don't respond we are subject to prosecution.
Oh my! Now they are trying to spam you this way. I get so tired of this type of junk finding its way to my inbox.
Oh, I had to come back and clarify my comments. It's not your posts that I consider junk, but rather the spam and garbage that regularly shows up.Thank goodness I can quickly delete these things,
My son had a drone but because of the regulations on where and when you can fly it, he decided to get rid of it and sold it. It was fun while it lasted. He brought it on one of our family vacations and it was really cool because we used it to take our family pictures on the beach. It's amazing how far you can fly one of those things. Yeah, I'm really careful with the whole spam thing man they really try to get you!
We have a toy helicopter we like to fly at the park. Back when drones were an oddity we crashed our (cheap) drone and mangled part of it so back to the heli for us. I hope we never have to register it. I didn't realize the drones could also be weapons until watching the movie "The Angel Has Fallen last week. Very interesting post! Enjoy your day!
I hate the thought of someone using drones as weapons but I suppose we will see that at some point with the crazy killers out there. They used drones in "Angel Has Fallen" which we saw at the show on Monday. I hate those scams. My brother calls me every time he gets one!!! Also we get a lot of scam phone calls.
