WORDY WED

I shared with all of you, that spending to much time on my devices was wreaking havoc on my concentration skills. While reading up on it, I found two articles that you might want to read, if you spend a lot of time poking your phone and/or tablet. I have cut way back on use of tablet/phone and I find I am a little better.

Problems that can be a result of smartphone/internet. Underlined are my results.
Anger
depression
relief
mood swings
anxiety
fear
irritability
sadness, loneliness, boredom, restlessness
procrastination
lack of focus or concentration
flitting from one thing to another without completing any of them.

Dopamine, Smarphones and YOU..... this is scary, you might want to take 10 minutes to read it.

this is one sentence from the above link.....Although not as intense as a hit of cocaine, positive social stimuli will similarly result in a release of dopamine, reinforcing whatever behavior preceded it.

More about Dopamine and YOU  The Psychology of Social Media.

IF YOU DON"T NEED THIS IT IS OK TO SKIP IT...

Interesting articles, thanks, Sandra. Glad to say I don't really relate to anything on that list...unless you count the procrastination which is my second (hidden) middle name! Actually, no, not so much procrastination - it just looks like that from the outside, but what is happening is lots of thinking about the doing on the inside; then suddenly action takes place like lightning strike! YAM xx

I'll have to come back to the articles later. Not much time this morning. I have some of those issues on the list though

I cut back years ago! That's why I walk so much. I feel so much better. At least physically! I don't think there's help for me in the mental capacity.

Thanks for the links, Sandra. The most important statement was in the last paragraph which mentioned mindful use of your devices as being a method of controlling device/app addiction. And, after reading about how FB continually tries to draw people in more, it made me glad to avoid its use.

Hello,

I use my desktop more than my phone. I am trying to cut back, my neck hurts too much. Thanks for the links. Enjoy your day!

LOL LOL Lack of focus..might describe my issue yesterday.
I knew I had 2 appt. this week and needed to leave home at 1:30 for both.
BUT I didn't look at my calendar before I left home.

Scary, indeed! I just skimmed, but will come back this afternoon and read in more depth. Yep, I'm a believer.... and unfortunately, an addict. I tried going cold turkey from FB a couple weeks ago, but that only lasted for a day. My biggest symptom is anger, followed closely by boredom and procrastination.

I am certainly not addicted to facebook or even instagram, though I use it more than FB...but I use it more to see pretty quilts than for anything. However I am on and off the computer and my phone all day long. But seldom sit for long periods of time till night. And trying to do better about keeping my phone with me...I tend to lay it down when home and just forget it. But sometimes think I need to keep it with me because if I fell and could not get up, I would never get Roger's attention by yelling, not even sure by phoning.

I have learned to avoid Facebook as it usually leads to anger and frustration...Usually I just post the pups pictures :-).

Even dopamine, that is surprising! I will read some of it.

I agree that FB can bring on anger and frustration.
I don't want to get involved with the political rants and negitivity plastered all over the thing.
I do love FB for conversation with the friends I wouldn't be able to stay in touch with otherwise.
I hate all the ads and phising that goes on if I look something up.
Not on my phone much and really forget to use it. I mostly use it to take the spur of the moment photos.
I really believe the internet can be addicting and that "Big Brother" is right there with us , whether we like it or not!

One thing I find a bit ironic is that the warnings about addiction to your phone/social media are also spread via the same media (and usually also collect a huge amount of likes...)

I found the article fascinating and pretty much right on...I see how brands and companies are using this psycological tool in their marketing.
We are willingly being "Used" every day.

I spend a lot of time on my devices or computer, but cannot honestly say that it has any negative affect on me. So many of my friends live there and I love to connect with them. I choose to scroll past the negative posts and focus on the positive stuff.

Thanks for the links. I've been much better and staying away more often. I often find myself grinding my teeth when I'm on my phone or computer.

I made a copy to my computer and will read tomorrow - I have been worried about this for a long time. Especially for Andy.
