Muscovy Ducks -Nature Friday

18 Muscovy Ducks appeared in our front yard, I stood on the porch and watched as they pecked and pooped their way accoss the yard and on over the driveway.. After the photos I clapped my hands and scared them across the street. They leave huge piles of poop, and must poop every 3 minutes EACH.

We have to watch Big Boy, A.K.A. POOP sniffer, while we are walking because we will be moving along at a nice speed and he will STOP and try to lay his head down, to YOU KNOW get the best view/smell.
I did say to Bob once, the internet DOES say they are edible.... YUCK! not me!

Back before ME, Bob said he used a cast net to catch 2 dozen of these ducks, because a farmer wanted them. He came in his pickup truck with crates and Bob rid the neighborhood of them, with no harm done to the ducks. Guess what, there were MORE in just a few weeks.

And they don't quack! In fact, they the silent majority. (Yamini...they're not ducks that migrate)

According to vets it's,the sugar in the poop that dogs need. Now, ain't that sweet? NOTZ

It amazes me that a dog is obsessed with eating all kinds of poop but will turn it's nose up at certain dog foods.
I would not be happy about all those ducks out there pooping all over the yard. Every 3 minutes huh? That's a lot of poop

What a lot of ducks that landed on your grass! Never a dull moment in your corner.

Are they stopping there on their way to go somewhere else? I don't think that poop would be too appetizing either - and why do they HAVE to poop every three hours? Interesting.

Eau de Muscovey--that is what you can get Big for Christmas.

What odd-looking creatures!
All that pecking and pooping would drive me nuts, for sure. Night before last Tom asked if I liked (to eat) duck. I wasn't really sure, but seeing these now … noooooo!

We have these kind of ducks here, but I sure did not know about the POOP! We once had a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker in our big Maple tree for many weeks. It drilled hundreds of holes! And it would drill, shoot out poop, drill, shoot out poop...for HOURS. You get the picture. Nothing we did would scare him off. Eventually the tree was dying, and we had to have it cut down. The experts all had different opinions about what was wrong with it, most said it was something to do with the roots. But I always suspected it was that darned bird! Good thing the tree was just barely over our property line. That meant the city had to pay for it. Else it would have cost THOUSANDS! There you have it, more than you wanted to know!

Wow, they are huge. Rather like geese and I sure know geese are totally messy.
On the poop issue...some neighborhood cats like to use our yard for their "potty"...and Snicker found the scat and ugh...ate it too...makes me gag.
My Dear...thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me get back on the Blogger train...
I hope all will be well now.
It sure was making me crazy...or craizer than I already am. (:0)

Folks complain about the Canada Geese up our way being messy. These Muscovy ducks are fascinating to look at. I haven't seen one in a good long while. Interesting about Bob catching them.

These guys look like self-propelled lawn mowers and add the fertilizer at the same time.

Wow! I am not familiar with these prolific poopsters and would prefer they don't decide to tour our area! That said, fascinating info about them and about your, Bob's and your canine family member's experiences with them!
