Eye Problems

For the past 10 days, I have had 4 episodes of blurring of my eyes. Suddenly, it would be like a shutter clicked, extreme blur, as in hard to walk blur, about 20 seconds. Not the kind where tired eyes need to be blinked to moisturize.
You know when you have a refraction done, to get prescription for new glasses,

Is one better, or 2? Eye is clear, then you can't see, then clear.
Walking Big Boy, this happened, extreme  blur, I stood still, shutter clicked and I could see.
Scared me to death.

the eye specialist fit me in the next day, at 4:50,
the last appt of the day.
I was a nervous nelly and after looking up What Causes This On Internet, I freaked out a little,
 all diseases were DEADLY...

It was strange waiting, 3 staff and ME, all wearing Mask, my 5 minute wait gave me time to prepare for my death or blindness or both.

The little Boy Doctor that came in listened to my tale, looked with not  one but THREE bright lights, mumbling dictation to the assistance.
He sat back and said
YOUR EYES ARE FINE. Really healthy.
You are having Eye Migraines without the pain!
WHAT??
He explained they blur and do other things, but does no harm to the eye, and said you are lucky to get 20 seconds, most are 10 minutes to an hour. If you get one longer than an hour, call us.

He says  " usually eye migraines are caused by Stress, have you had any stress lately?

I burst out in LOUD laughter and tried not to roll on the floor.

First, I grabbed my mask and shook it, he laughed and then I said
He and the assistant were laughing and nodding.

STRESS! I have been shut in my house for 16 weeks with my 84 year old husband, what do you think?
there is more, you know I said more, then I closed with
" I am a chatty Cathy, I love to Talk, I have no one to talk to"
Hubby says my conversation is backing up and full to my eyeballs. He also said, don't you wonder what they two of them said when they went home?
I answered I wonder what they said as soon as I left the room...

I came home and researched and I have the least of the symptoms from this disease I never heard of.
Thank You Lord...that I have the pain free one...

I read this like the last chapter of a mystery novel. And guess what? Phil had these! The doctor called them Ocular Migraines. With him, he would have episodes where he would not see an entire image. Just parts of something. Like only the tires of a car. We were scared, too, thinking it was something really bad, like a brain tumor. I am SO glad for you!!! I have also been having eye trouble. That foggy film that you get in front of your vision after cataract surgery. They lasered it off over a year ago, but now it looks like it is back! And I will not go to the eye doctor, he is in Covid City, which I call the mouth of hell.

Hello,

I have been having similar eye problems too, blurry eyes coming and going. I have been wondering if I should go to a regular eye doctor or one just to check my eyesight and get new glasses. I am glad all went well and you are pain free. Wishing you a stress free day..

I get lots of blurry vision - when I have had too much screen time!!! I make point of looking out the window to the farthest point available to exercise the focal length. But I have wondered at the strength of symptoms sometimes and I would need to think that the stress of the care may be adding to things. Thanks for bringing it to our attention - and am glad for you it is nothing worse. YAM xx

I'm so glad to hear that it wasn't something more serious. I've never heard of that before though. Very interesting.

Oh my goodness. You sure have had many days of stress & episodes of pain and more lately. No wonder. Yes, I've heard of ocular migraines. Exercise you vision by changing focus on different distant objects as you do when driving...stay away from computer, tablets, tv, phone screens....that's why I limit myself to one hour a morning & one in afternoon for electronics.

I am so glad yours do not last long and I hope they remain pain free. Well, I hope they completely stop even more.

If its not one thing its another at three score and ten +. Stress is an ugly thing. Do your best to lessen it and hope your symptoms go away.

I have vitreous detachment; a chronic condition that causes blurry patches of water that travel around my eyes. I see an ophthalmologist annually for diabetes related exams and he diagnosed the condition and was sorry to tell me I would just learn to live with it.

My PCP tells me the same thing for all sorts of age related stuff. I guess 'living' is the key word.

Our eyesight is precious so glad that you got checked out and got some reassurance from the optician's examination. They have wonderful equipment to look into the eye. I hope you can relax now that you know the problem is caused by stress which is not surprising. We're going through this together Sandra so praying for you and Bob.

MS bless your heart...I might have had to stick my tongue out at the doc, when he asked about stress, except for the fact he was on a mission to help you.
Stress is a silent culprit it brings on so many unknowns.
I recently had the same question from my doc when I was having issues w my bp. We were on a virtual chat so I could not make a face but I said yes...I have been stressed since March 17. I was especially stressed the last part of march when I only had 2 rolls of toilet paper and each week when I go to the grocery store is stressful. Why she asked well I'm a planner. for 50 years I have made menus for the week. I only buy what I need for all my planned meals. Now the grocer store is like hunting and gathering and sometimes I have to fly by the seat of my pants hoping I have all I need because I had to change my list mid stream.
I fully understand. I send you hugs and prayers you find a well to
cope. I guess we have to laugh otherwise we'd cry and that certainly won't help.

WHAAAAAT?!?! Yep, every day's a school day. So thankful yours isn't anything even close to deadly!

I, too, am laughing … on account my appt. with the eye surgeon Wednesday went much like that, him mumbling words to his assistant that didn't sound like anything in English. He, too, looked barely old enough to shave -- but couldn't say for sure with his mask on. Tom's been complaining of blurry eye episodes for a couple years now; I'm going to strongly suggest we Google eye migraines.

First off..I actually laughed out loud when I read what Bob says about your conversation backing up and full to your eyeballs....too funny and I think that's the perfect explanation for your pain !!
Dear Friend, I pray your stress will be less and more manageable.
Stress can do weird things to all of us.

Thankfully that is good news. Now...what can we do about the stress? I grind my teeth all day!

What a relief to find out what was wrong. And stress? That's what the dentist asked me one time when I was grinding my teeth. We need to chill...but it's easier said than done. I walked this morning in the heat to get away from the roofers. They just left and now the quiet seems deafening! lol Happy weekend!

What a relief to find out that you did not have anything deadly, and now I know that stress can cause all sorts of issues we might not expect. Of course, you know you can chat here with everyone and hope that helps relieve some of the stress and maybe the eye migraines.

Oh my word! I have never heard of something like that before. Thank goodness you have no pain and it lasts only a short while.

You have me in stitches with this:
Hubby says my conversation is backing up and full to my eyeballs. He also said, don't you wonder what they two of them said when they went home?
Love it, never heard of it tho.

I've had a few ocular migraines, not blurry vision just jagged lines. They're scary, but fortunately a friend of mine told me what it was the first time I had it so I didn't have to worry.

Good luck!

Praise GOD and thank you, Jesus!! Stress can do so much! I am so grateful you do not have the pain!

Sister-in-law has a kind of ocular migraine where the middle of the page in a book she's reading just disappears. Makes it hard to follow the plot. I get the headbanger please-shoot-me-now kind of migraine, but fewer now that I am older. YAY.
