Desoto Square Mall part 2

These photos are taken in the Mall parking lot. Acres and Acres of empty spaces. The county rents the space to keep their buses.
I think it was sheer genius on the part of the company that owns the mall, finding uses for the parking lot. Even with all this there are acres of empty cement surrounding the almost empty mall.

Across from the buses they keep Budget Rental trucks and cars are in the Closed Penny's store
with a few buses under the shade trees

Below are cars from a car dealer ship, they only have room for about 20 cars and rent the space for retail car sales

The below are out of state Tree Trimmers, Ready to roll staging spot

A sad but true tale of a once much visited Mall...there was a day we could not find a place to park to go inside.

Wow, sad. But I am glad they found a use for the big space.

they found a way to bring life back... we have an old mall what's a ghost place now... the town rents it to circus-people for hibernation...so to see a camel in the morning or a llama is "normal" here... but I hope we will not met a lion once LOL

Too bad they can't find a way to get things going back inside the mall. At least they found a use for some of the parking area.

Hello,
They have found a great use of the parking lot. But, what about the old mall building? Take care, enjoy your day!

I think there are similar scenes like this nation-wide. And, soon, I predict, a lot of individual stores will be vacant like most malls.

I am afraid that soon there will be no place left to even try on shoes. What a mess that would be for those of us with problem feet.

sandra, I was curious to learn more after reading these posts on the mall, I looked at images before and now online and watched a news interview about how others also remember the mall’s former days. A number if articles said that The site may be developed for housing and medical offices which will be a disappointment to many former shoppers.

Genius! I remember all the excitement when, back in the 60's someone built a the first mall in New Mexico and everyone -- including my parents -- drove 100 miles to see what that was all about.
All the same, it reminds me of that Joni Mitchell song lyric, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

So many new ways of life for all. I'm glad there is a use for the huge lot too!!

Sad sign of the times, but more power to the Mall owners for making use of the space.
Lots of equipment and cars have found a new, readily available staging area.
Enterprise Cars has done the same thing in the closed K Mart lot in our City.
Hope your day is going well.
Hang in there Friend.

Those were the days when we would go to the mall. I enjoyed having all the stores in one place, walking around, having an Orange Julius, shopping, browsing. Things have changed so much.

I used to take my kids to the mall just to walk around when they were little. The one mall had a real merry go round that was a wonderful treat for them and me as well. We'd get a pretzel with lemonade and go in the Disney store. The mall got rid of the merry go round. One by one they are loosing the retail stores. I really haven't been in the mall in years. They did put in a Home Goods but you can get to it from the outside. I've been in there but I'm not compelled to go on into the mall from there. This mall has the big parking lot that has car dealerships having sales there and during this time of year they put up a big tent to sell Halloween costumes.

The mall in Charleston is really loosing business. People don't want to shop there anymore because the new mayor lots the bums do as they please. People don't feel safe there anymore. They have recently moved the library to the mall while they are doing renovations of the library. I haven't heard how that is working out. This mall has the parking garage style parking where they charge way too much to park there. I went to this mall all the time when I was a teen. I can just about count on one hand how many times I've been in the past 10 years. Zero. I just have no interest in it.

I hate to hear about it but so glad they are using the land for something and making money.

I am sorry to see malls slowly disappearing . it was such a handy way to shop, especially in our winters.

Thoughts when I saw the first photo....Hmm I think I see a row of orange pumpkins. Its almost Halloween and I am trying to see the humor in all these changes and some days it's not easy.

It's better than nothing, but still sad about the mall. :(

Good that they can use the lot at least for parking busses. We had a teeny tiny "mall" I'll put the word mall in quotes b/c it wasn't really though it tried. Anyway, whole thing got torn down years ago.

It's really sad. I imagine that someday it will all be torn down and some apartments or condos will go up.
