A tale of Tabs and Timers on Thankful Thursday
I work with several Tabs open at the same time . I can copy and paste from one to the other.
Click to Enlarge the snip and you can see the tab with timer going.
After hours and hours for 7 days on computer, I had back, neck and shoulder pain.. Always have pain if I stay to long on the computer. I know this but I do it anyway.
The body needs to Move. Sitting is Bad. Standing or Walking is good.
Sitting is Cake, Moving is raw veggies.
This is the online stopwatch I found. When I sit down at my computer, I click start, it is a 10 minute timer.
When 10 minutes is up it gives 2 short rings just like the 1950's phone we had back in the day.
Funny thing is, Bob asks What Is That, every time it rings.
Ring Ring and
I get up, march in place to count of 20, and do side to side steps count to 20 both sides.
or
GO potty
Stand for the next 10 at the counter if I am on laptop
Go get more coffee
Take dog out
Wipe down something
Sweep the floor
MOVE any way you can
Sit back at computer and click the 10 minute thingy.
Edit photos and get up every 10 minutes.
I was commenting on blogs this morning and in 50 minutes I got up 5 times.
After doing this for 3 days my energy is higher and pain is gone.
PLUS, my to do list is slowly shrinking.
Some of you might prefer your phone or a timer, I prefer this online stopwatch, because it is on all devices and takes no space.
I have been known to go into EDITville and not get up for 2 hours and then I can hardly walk and my neck, back and shoulder HOWL at me.
If I sit for more than 15 minutes, I look like a robot when I walk.
Move Those Bodies.
I AM thankful I can move....I am thankful for my new StopWatch
Remember Inactivity is Your Enemy..

I downloaded the stopwatch and put it on my desktop. I have been playing with it. It will ring if I keep it open and minimize it! I can use this when I record the prayer line on the phone; they have cut me down to two minutes due to funds. I do not have the willpower to keep getting up! I get so comfy, then when I get up, it is so slow and I hobble and am bent over for the first minute. till I get going. The timer was a super idea!
I hate to sit, so I have my computer set up so I stand on my trampoline and can bounce when I want. If I have to sit in front of the computer in the other room I do it on an exercise ball. That way I can easily move my body a bit, and it exercises the back muscles to sit up straight. It works for me.
we agree... siting is cake yay!!! got a new phone yesterday... don't ask...it was much more worse than any diy-disaster we ever had...
Yesterday I was in control for diabetes and I was recommended to me to do more frequent breaks and many walk!
Hello,
The stopwatch is a good reminder to get up and move. I heard the fitbit will remind you to move around too. I need to take breaks just for my eyes, my left eye is driving me crazy.
Take care, enjoy your computer and have a happy day!
I need to do this. I know I'm up on my feet all day when I'm at work but once I get home I spend too much time sitting. Knowing me the timer would go off and I would ignore it.
I allow myself, (like I told you before) only 1 hour a day at the computer. 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, etc. They're a fun piece of equipment, but lethal.

I have that very stopwatch! Placed on Voovoo two or three years back to put on when I have stuff on the stove... because, otherwise, when I come back through to do a bit online, the seven minutes for the eggs or twenty for the tatties is sure to result in smoke alarms going off!!! using it to remind for movement is a brilliant idea. YAM xx
That is a good idea..for anyone. You will laugh at this...a lot of times I sit still because I have a cat on my lap/legs and I hat to disturb them. Through the day I am always up and down, but it is when it is dark that I feel the guilt.
Good advice in this post, Sandra, because some days I have the same issues as you have described. The stopwatch idea is a good one, but 10 minutes isn’t enough for me, so more like 15-20 works better.
Man that is a TERRIFIC idea. Thanks. I think I will try it - maybe every 15 minutes tho.
What a super idea! My hips usually prevent me from lingering too long. I'd been thinking about getting a new desk chair, but no. Not right now.
I've been awfully remiss about walking and stretching; of course, I know better. You've cited some great, easy examples to keep limber and accomplish those niggling tasks at the same time. Thanks!
That is a fantastic idea Sandra! Sometimes I can sit down at my computer in the morning and all of a sudden I realize I've been sitting there for 2 or 3 hours. Not good. I'm going to use your idea. I've never thought of setting a timer but here's a few things I do - any time I walk through a doorway I reach up to the top of the door frame and hold for ten seconds. When I go to sit down or stand up I do ten squats just short of hitting the seat and back up, and If I'm standing I do a few sets of toe raises. Give them a try them for a little extra and I'm setting my timer right now! :)
What an excellent idea...Yep we have to keep moving
Hugs cecilia
You are so organized even in your exercise. Good for you.
Guilty of sitting too long at a time.
My scale was nice to me today.
I'm a pound and a half from my goal...yay me!!

That is a great find. Mom says Dad could use that because his eyes dry out when he stares too long at his computer screen. Thanks for the tip.

You are speaking to me. I know that I need to get up more often, to avoid the neck, shoulder and arm pain.
You are so clever! Love that you are so creative, too!
That stopwatch thing is such a good idea!!
What a great idea!
Thanks for this reminder to get up and move. I don't spend a lot of time on my computer, just blog every other day and that's when I read my friend's blogs. As you know I gave up on photo editing with this Chromebook.
But I do spend time on my Kindle Fire first thing in the morning. And now I'm getting hooked on a word game my friend Jane recommended I try
But you have inspired me with some things, I will email about that later. Good stuff. That works. .
Oh, I am definitely going to try this, but maybe on 15 or 20 minutes to start. I have lots of financial paperwork this week, so lots of time at the keyboard. Thanks for sharing.
I was meant to come back for sure to you and your fab blogs. My doctor tole me the same thing. about not on computer. I too get carried away with my art and all and spent hours. I go in the first floor and do the walking but it is like forever doing twenty minutes when I am really not in the mood. Then I jack up to 45 minutes . I find when I walk with my daughter it is a lot faster the time. She lives half hour away and has her own life. She is involved in her church group, with hubby he is retired. So I will get that stop watch and I will do some things you mentioned. My one cleaning lady in her building showed me how to take note any exercise I do my phone. I did not so good yesterday but I did steps. Then about 15 minutes a walk in the halls. Yesterday about 2 I got this headache. So after supper I went to bed early and at 2 woke up with a migraine headache. so took Tylenol half hour ago . I feel a tad better. My goodness being older is so unpredictable what my body wants to do.. I have lower back trouble stiffness and legs when I sit too long. Oh sorry to go on.
