Can you say TACKY???

Back in the mid 70's, my husband worked two jobs, one as a Fireman after he got out of the Air Force, and the 2nd was Carpet salesman/installer on his off days.

We had free access to any thing that was left over after he did a job.
RED Shag Carpet was the RAGE. There was just enough to carpet our small living room.
I bought red, pinch pleated draw drapes and then added a sofa and matching chair in white with RED cabbage roses.

I have no photos, because we had no camera, but this is much like it looked.
Within 6 months I was sick of it but could not change it because I could not make myself admit to my mother and a few others that warned me to much red and I would get tired of it.
My answer was I LOVE red!
HA! now 50 years later I can admit I HATED it in about 2 months time.
I still love red as you can see below.
I ordered 4 kitchen towels that hang on the front of the stove.
Murphy LOVES me.
Two are red striped and one red, one green plaid.
The Stripes are perfect
The Red Plaid came with two MALE snaps, thus no way to snap it, PLUS on both the snaps are in the wrong places and will not shut around the handle
Zoom in and you will see a very large Safety Pin works well.
I did not want to return to Amazon just because I did not want to.
I know Yam and Ceil will love these. Do YOU?

The towels are really cute, and I love them! As to your old living room, dare I mention funeral parlour again? No? Well, maybe just old lady, or retirement home foyer.

Your sticking with the living room reminds me of a friend who said she would never get a divorce because she would never admit to the world she made a mistake. ❤️

Good morning,

Red is not my favorite color, I do love red flowers.
Your kitchen towels are cute, they would be just enough red for me.
Take care, have a happy day!

I like red but that living room is a bit much. I have one bedroom in my house, used to be my sons, that is painted red. I need to paint over it but don't have the ambition because I know it will take several coats.
I do love those red towels.

I like your new towels but that living room is a bit much lol. I recall burnt orange shag in my first apartment, and I thought it was nice at the time!

Would you believe, my boss in Abilene (mid-70's) had a bedroom like that? Everything -- including the bed -- was red and black. He and his wife had us to their home for something or another and she showed us 'Clif's kingdom.' (Yep, those were her exact words.)

I'm smiling, too, because I loved my burnt orange shag carpet. Remember having to rake it? Ha!

Those towels would go perfect in my kitchen, too. Because we go through them often, I'm constantly rotating the red/white checked and black/white.

Oh yes, shag carpets - the ultimate dust and dross collectors! I do like red- but as accents, even I would draw the line at red carpet... colour affects mood and red is an activator. Too much builds up the anger default... jus' notin'... YAM xx

Oh dear me the 70's shag carpet and avocado and harvest gold appliances are things that should never EVER no NEVER make a comeback. As for the red well ....'nuff said. LOL

At least we can look back and laugh. Better to have given vent to imagination than to say I've never really decorated anything (cos i haven't) -just cobbled together arrangements of second hand dross mostly.

I do really like those red and white towels. they perk up the room, but that's too much red for me in the living room. Maybe it's the heavy red drapes that darken the room...
Our sofa was so dated by today's standards...burnt orange, yellow and tones of green floral..very chic in the day but now???
Nope I wouldn't want it.
Funny how tastes change.

I love RED too and have 2 red sofas in my living room...beige carpet though. I haven't gotten tired of them and love different throw pillows to compliment. We have beige drapes too. Fun post! You are a FUN person!

Those were the days. I've never had anything red in the house. Sorry about the defective towels. They do look cute.

We had an orange shag carpet, a pink refrigerator, and plenty of avocado green and harvest gold back in the 1950's (in different rooms).
I hope the new owners have changed the color scheme.

Mom likes the color red although blue is her favorite. The towels are very nice.

Funny story about red - our Angel Phantom was a very friendly boy but if a stranger came near him wearing anything bright red, and especially a red baseball hat, he would growl - so unlike our friendly boy. There was just something about that red.

I love red, but red shag would be too much for me. I also have some red towels in the kitchen for accents and want to get red facecloths to go with charcoal colored towels in the bathroom.

I used to wonder why you were called the Mad Snapper. I figured it might have been because of the way you talk to your loving husband. But now I see it's because of the way you fasten your kitchen towels!

Pinch-pleated drapes! I had forgotten. And drapes were so expensive, too.

Like you I love orange, the brighter the better - BUT I would never have it in my face like a shag pile carpet - rather accents that give that little uplift when I'm within a small space of it all

Necessity is the mother of invention. The fix on your tea towels did the job. I like red too. In fact I just treated myself to a red butter dish for the kitchen table. When we were ready for a new sofa I loved one with this red flower pattern, but as we made a promise to each other about any major purchases, that we both like it, we chose a plain greenish material. Maybe I would have gotten tired of the red flowers in the couch in a hurry too but I sure did love it at the time. Now I have cushions with bright colors in them that I am happy with.
